My husband and I just returned from a weekend of camping at Leisure Resort in Fentress, Texas.  I would not recommend this camp to my worst enemy.  The sites were on top of each other.  There literally was a picnic tables width between each site.  Luckily there were few people there strangely enough for this time of year in Texas.  Further management had absolutely no people skills and were not interested in accommodating anyone, they only cared about what you couldn't do and how much they could charge.

We heard about this place at the recent Texas Parks and Wildlife Expo.  They had a representative there promoting the park.  He gave us a flyer promoting a blue grass festival and potluck dinner for this past weekend.  What we found when we attended was it was not sponsored by the park, in fact it was a group of campers that get together each year and rent their pavilion to have a potluck dinner and play music.  I had not planned an evening meal, but baked a large batch of cookies before we left as my potluck dish.  Fortunately these were nice folks and invited us to eat with them anyway or my husband and I would have had a great dinner of cookies.

The management of the park found everyway possible to charge a fee.  There were fees for everything including my shower.  The camping fee alone is twice what it is at the state parks.

We were quite disappointed in this park and the management and would not recommend it to anyone.

I'd like to know if there are anyother Texans out there who have had similar experiences.

Sorry y'all had a bad experience. I know what that's like. Our weekends are precious few it seems, and to waste the time and money on a "resort" like that is, well, a real let-down.

I've personally never heard of the place or town for that matter. And I was born & bred in Texas. Lived in Austin for 26 years. Lived north, south and central. Our favorite place was Inks Lake during the week. McKinney Falls and Bastrop were nice as well.

If you get a chance, come on up to CO and check out some of the CGs mentioned in this section of the forum. But make reservations early. If you'd like, I, or some of the other folks here can guide you to specific areas or sites. May is good to beat the crowds and that's about as early as most places open. On through September if you don't mind a little snow now & then.

Anyway, best wishes for next time!

Thanks for the invite to camp in CO.  We may very well at some point make a trip to Co in our popup.  My husband is still getting used to towing it, but feeling more confident each time we take a trip.  I have a brother that lives in Denver and we would like to go visit him and his wife.  They love the outdoors as much or more than we do.  I also like to rock climb and there is some really good crags in CO of course.  Not to mention CO is just downright beautiful.

As far as were Fentress Tx is.  It's right outside of Lockhart and the campground set right on the Guadelupe.  Since you grew up in TX, you probably know where Lockhart is.  My husband and I camped at Inks Lake in August.  We too love that park.  The first place we camped when we bought the camper in May was Bastrop.  It is only an hr from where we live.  We have hiked and ridden our bikes many times at Bastrop.

Again thanks for the invite to CO.  We will definately ask your advice on campgrounds when we make it that direction.

Yep, know real good where Lockhart is...there's some good BBQ there if I recall...
Has to be to offset the smell of oil!

We stayed at Golden Gate State Park this past August. Just outside of Boulder.
Reminded me a lot of Bastrop SP. You can get a glimpse of it at:

October and Novermber were our favorite camping months in Austin...not too hot, not too cool. So y'all get lots of practice!
