Acadia and Bar Harbor KOA windy?

We will be camping at Acadia National Park for a week in August, then would like to move to a private campground for another week. I have seen favorable reviews for the Bar Harbor KOA, but also comments that a large section of it is essentially a grassy parking lot. The selling point, however seems to be the waterfront sites, one of which we could easily reserve now for August.

Has anyone camped at this KOA in a popup? If you had a waterfront site was the wind manageable, or did it make for noisy nights and shaking popup? The place seems to be a big draw for the big rigs, normally not our preference, but waterfront sounds tempting...please advise, particualrly if you have camped there.

Thanks in advance!

We camped there in 2005....didn't get too windy...had a couple of rainy nights...not a problem....here's a pic from our Waterfront Site

Any time that you camp at a beach front CG (anywhere in the world) you are at the mercy of the weather, on that particular day.

August is hurricane season. For the most part, the weather should be beautiful but East Coast hurricanes have a habit of sending rain and strong winds as far north as Bar Harbor. If you happen to be unlucky enough to be there on that day, it would not be pleasant. The good news is, you would have plenty of warning in that event.

I spent an entire month in Bar Harbor (on my yacht) in 1996. The weather was gorgeous with gentle breezes in the evening (a little humid and buggy, if I remember correctly). We left in Sept and the remnants of a hurricane went through there in late Sept (while we were safely in Annapolis, MD.

Weather weather forecasting in that part of the world is pretty good and you usually get ample warning of bad weather.

Wow...looks beautiful. We live in the DC area and are very familiar with east coast hurricanes. Paying attention to the weather reports will take care of those. I was more concerned about average daily winds in August largely because when I made our reservations the person booking the dates "warned" me about these sites having the potential to be windy. We will keep the awning rolled up.

Thanks for the info.
