Just thought I'd share my Thanksgiving camp trip.
I took the PU down to nearby Lake Texana SP and set up on Thursday(11/17). It is only a 30 drive from home.  I played hooky from work on Friday and stayed at camp. Unfortunately DH had to work, so it was just me and my Daisy dog. I enjoyed the solitude- going for walks, sitting in my reclining chair reading a trashy novel, and bird watching. It was weird going to the food store and only buying food for myself.
Later, my brother and his wife set up in a nearby site as did DH's sister and her famly. In all there were 15 family members camping in the park.
I stayed until Sunday evening(19th), then I left the trailer in camp and went home to teach school Monday and Tuesday. Tues eve I went back down to camp. More peace and quiet. DH  and DD (home from college)with her boyfriend came Wed and stayed until Saturday morning.
We had absolutely perfect weather. You couldn't order it any better. Sunny cool days in the lower 70's; nights in the low 40's with more stars than you have ever seen. We could not believe our luck! This went on the the entire 10 days of camping!! :S
With the perfect weather, the water/electric sites in the park were completely full of campers
On Thanksgiving day, we had 17 family members gather at my brother's campsite. He had a great view of the lake! We all brought dishes and had a great feast!. We had smoked turkey, ham, tamales, and I roasted a large chicken in my dutch oven. We had salads and green beans and lots of pies. My mom is a great pie baker and she and my stepdad drove to the park for the day bringing delicious pies.  We sat our lawn chairs in a huge circle eating, laughing, talking and telling tales. It was wonderful.
Friday night we had a huge campfire and sat roasting marshmallows and had a  wine tasting party. Everyone brought their favorite wine and shared.
Saturday DH went to work and I again stayed by myself. The astronomy club I belong to had a date to do a star gaze at the park that night so I was right there ready to go. Club members brought 5 telescopes and mounted  binoculars and we set up near the interpretive center. Over 104 campers showed up to get a close up look at the moon and other celestial sights. It was great fun.
Sunday I packed up and went home. Sigh!
I'm hoping we can get a short trip in during the Christmas holidays.
Here in south Texas we like to camp in the mild winters rather than the boiling hot humid summers.
Happy Holidays to all!

Camping Coxes

Wow.  Maybe you can make this a Thanksgiving tradition.  Sounds like an awesome time!

OC Campers

That sounds like my kind of camping trip.  I love to sit and do absolutely nothing when camping.  As long as I have a book, I am a happy camper.  I think the "only child" comes out in me here.
