I was checking things out on RVtrader.com and found that Fleetwood's Highlander Series' prices are over the top.

Avalon - $20,000+
Sequoia - $16,500+
Niagara - $ $18,000+

Americana Series - Utah - $14,700+

Even if they took a couple thousand off the top, the prices are outragous.  We paid $13,000 for our 05 Niagara and thought that was alot but now, WOW!  Most of the prices above are more expensive than our new hybrid.

What are they thinking?

And to think I only paid $12,577 for my 23' Hybrid...band spanking new!!

That is why it's not unusual for Fleetwood PU dealers to "knock off" 40-50% when push comes to shove.  And still make a profit.

My theory is that they know that PUPs are the very first introduction to RVs for many new and green off the street customers.  Most don't know what any RVs cost, so the salesmen simply throw out a price for a PU ,(with a rediculous profit margin for them), hoping that the newbee will bite.  It's not until a newbee PU shopper does their due diligence that they discover what others have paid.

There has never been an RV "Window Sticker".  Unlike the Monroney Sticker we are all familair with on automobiles, RV dealers can charge whatever the free market will bear. Caveat emptor!

It's also not a coincidence that as soon as it became common for fulltimers to liquidate ALL of their stick-based real estate holdings, that the prices of ClassA motorhomes quickly shot through the roof.  The free-market economy in action.  Capitalism, ya gotta love it!

As a newbie, I bought my 2004 Fleetwood Westlake for $9K.  The actual sale price was about $13K.  I had done some homework before purchasing and knew what my budget was.  I wasn't going to budge from the budget!  With taxes I think it came to about $10,500 which was very reasonable considering that it had a lot more features than the new ones for $17K!

Point is, do your homework, know your budget, and negotiate like heck... did the same thing with my TV, too.

Yup, Mike has it right.

Peco prices:
Avalon - $15,395
Sequoia - None in stock
Niagara - $ $13,895+

Americana Series - Utah - $10,295

So you see there is quite a difference between MSRP and real world prices.

You are soooo right about Pecos. We jus bought a 2007 fleetwood bayside from them fully loaded a/c furnace etc. and only paid $10,950. They were the nicest people that you could ask for. No pushy sales people or trying to get you to buy things you did not want nor need. Check them out

When I first thought about buying a trailer I started looking at manufacturer sites and then checked out prices.

I live in Saskatchewan Canada and no one here would bring one in.  I asked on dealer to check on a price and he quoted a niagara at $24 500.00 plus taxes etc.  He said that was his bottom line price.

He said they are beautiful trailers but is people are going to spend that kind of money they will just by a hybrid or travel trailer.

A new hybrid with the same amenities etc he sels for $18 900.00

Bet the amount of Niagara's in Canada sold is very far and few between.

Then I started to look at prices and found a great Coleman Shenandoah with shower, cassette toilet, furnace and awning and all the other goodies for $5900

Penguinluvr welcome to PUT.  It sounds like you have a nice trailer at a reasonable price.

My dealer Rhone's Travel Trailers near Williamsport, PA has the following prices as of September 2006.

Sequoia $11,516
Niagara $12,795
Arcadia $12,695
Avalon $14,195

Utah HW $9,295
Williamsburg $9,895
Bayside HW $9,695

When I orignially started this thead I thought how rediculous it is that the dealers would advertise at those outragious prices.  If someone who didn't know anything about pup's looked there to purchase, they would be scared away from their pricing.  Sure, if you bargain, you will get them down but someone who's green might think that price is it and that they can't afford one.

Here in CA, the prices from Peco's aren't realistic.  We paid $13,000 for our 05 Niagara and now they're over $14,000+.  Everything is more expensive here.

K&R it depends. One of the members over at RV.net; Beacher is from somewhere in CA and he's helped a couple of folks with dealerships that he claims actually beat Peco's prices.
Whether or not he full of it I can't say, but for any CA folks that are paying higher prices you could contact him for some help.

Hello kinrb266,

If we havn't met already at a previous SCCampers rally, I'll be right next door to you at Flying Flags.:D

People pay more in Southern California, only if they don't know any better!  We have the luxury of having many Fleetwood PU dealers in the area, and they compete very aggressively four your business.

IF you know HOW to negotiate, (and are willing to work a little), you can get as much as 40% off, I did it.  I paid $8,000 for a fully loaded "$12,500 posted price" 2004 GTE Niagara.  I did it again for my sister's PU, and a few neighbors.  Always far better than Peco's prices.

BTW, you should have not paid more than $13,000 "out the door" for a fully loaded 2005 Niagara with ALL the options, A/C, battery, 2nd propane tank, hitch, and sales tax included!

I thought I was a member here too?    I use the same name on RVnet, PUT, PUX, PUP, and every other RV/PU message board.  Essentially, because I live in Long Beach, CA. :U

My DW always claims that I'm full of it, but at least I didn't overpay for my PU. :D

I believe we got a decent deal for our 05 Niagara.  We did our homework and even had the salesman doing some phone calls.

We definitely got a deal on our 07 Kodiak 214.  We were quoted almost $20k earlier in the year and was told that it was going up due to higher fuel charge.  We came in a month or so ago and started talking options to the same salesman and he quoted us $17,200, in writing.  He made a mistake and should have quoted the 20k.  He notified us of the mistake and they are sticking to it.  Good for us and bad for them.  They can make it up on another customer.
