Grand Canyon Skywalk (this site is slow, be patient).

As far as I can tell, this is real.  Snopes says it is.  I don't know if I could bring myself to walk out onto it, though, and it's PJay (not me) who is afraid of heights!

read an article a year ago about it. My understanding is it will have glass walls and a glass floor. and they are going to charge around $25.00 per person to go out on it. I am with you  :yikes:  I couldn't do it.

There was talk years ago about doing something like this at the North Rim.  Park Service said no, not no, but h--- no!  The rock at the rims are mostly shale, and there are several earthquake fault lines in the canyon, including the Bright Angel fault line.  I experienced at least a dozen quakes while living on the South Rim.  Not exactly stable!
 
For those confused, Grand Canyon West (GCW) is NOT part of the Grand Canyon National Park.  It is about a five hour drive west of the south rim and is home of the Hualapai.  There is a major trail from the parking lot to Havasu Falls and to the village.  Both are surrounded by the park, but are not part of it.  The Hualapai tribe run the village, the horses that go down to the village, the trail permits, and anything related to Havasu Falls (the prettiest in the Grand Canyon system).  The other falls downstream are in the park, but not as spectacular.  It's well worth the trip to the falls and the village.  
 
This floating bridge skyway however....  let's just say it's been a very political hotspot for at least 15 years (and maybe longer).  It's on tribal lands, not endorsed by NPS or park employees.  Even though I love the Hualapais and their lands, I wouldn't feel safe on the skyway!  And this coming from someone who's walked on the very edge of the Canyon!! (don't ask, I was young and stupid at the time:) ).
 
Last comment:  I still LOVE the Grand Canyon.  I'll always consider it my second home.  If you ever get the chance, please go visit it.  And yes, I can recommend a couple campgrounds, on the rim and in the Canyon itself.

We are going in July... i plan on walking it...
i will try and check it out to make sure its built sturdy.. But im pretty sure it will be buit very sturdy...

I'll believe it when it's actually finished.  The web site shows just one construction photo of the steel fabrication.

Grand opening is pushed out until March 2007.  I predict more adjustments to the schedule.

The site I posted (which stopped working yesterday) had a lot more construction photos.  Based on those, I have little doubt that it will be completed well before March.

If anyone here has been to the Ghost Bar at the Palms in Las Vegas, you know there is a small glass floor out on the patio that makes it so you can look all the way down to the ground (Like 50 floors or so).  Since I'm in the glass business I know they use a type of Bullet resistant laminated glass that is a minimum of 2" thick.  Back in November I was out on the patio watching these people leaning over so they could look down without stepping on the glass.  Since I had a drink or 2 I walked over to it and started jumping up and down on the glass.  I got some of the funniest reactions ever.
