 Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has fabricated a gray water adaptor for a Coleman camper? Right now, on our Coleman Santa Fe we have a 2"  pipe thread outlet. We use the Coleman supplied adapter that screws on and then a hose attaches to our gret water tank. What we d like to use is the regular 3"  hose that most RVs use. I haven t gone to Home Depot yet to see if I can put the PVC pieces together that will give me a 2"  female pipe thread to a 3"  PVC that the hose can slip over.

Any ideas would be appreciated. My wife just wants the sink to drain a little faster and feels that it would with the bigger drainage hose.

BearnkatHave you tried adding a vent to the drain?  Many people have found adding a vent, even one as simple as a hose Y adapter mounted to the drain, with a short piece of hose coming off of it so the water doesn t leak out at the adapter, helps the sink drain quicker.

Here is a link to a friend s community web shots page.  He has a drain system with a mechanical vent.  Hope this helps and it may be easyer than going to a 3 inch system.[:)]

 BearnkatActually, Coleman uses 1 1/2"  pipe not 2" .
I use 1 1/2"  PVC pipe to connect my drains to my grey water tank, and am very happy with the results.
The biggest restriction in the system is the outlet in the sink itself.
visit my web page for photos of my set up.

[:D] I linked to Oz and Us too.  I guess we both think Bill has a good drain set up.[:)]

BearnkatWhen we had our PopUp I followed the same type of setup for 6Quigs for My Greywater Tanks and it worked great.  I never found that our Niagara needed a vent to flow smooth.  I ran tests with the drain open, no hoses, and with our tanks and it took the same amount of time to drain 1 gallon of water in both cases.  Not sure why, but worked fine for us.

 BearnkatHi Everyone,

Thanks for the wonderful ideas and links. From all of the great information, I feel that I can implement a solution to the problem.

 BearnkatHi All,

My wife and I went to our neighborhood Lowes and I was able to get all the parts needed to adapt the 1 1/2"  drain coming out of the Coleman to the 2 inches necessary to hookup the drain hose going down to the gray water tank. When we go on our next trip, I ll take pictures and post them. Again thanks to all for your suggestions and help.

 BearnkatHi,

I am having a hard time trying to understand what you are doing with your gray water drain. Not sure what size mine is but with the adapter provided by Coleman, but  I plan on attaching a garden hose, cut short and put it into a 7 Gal tank. Is bigger better?[:o]

BearnkatWhitestar some people have problems with their sinks draining.  There is a vacuum in the line.  By using a larger diameter line and/or a vent the water drains better.  Some people don t have any problem with the drains on their PUs and others have a lot.

whitestar505We were using the garden hose connected to the Coleman adapter, but my wife just felt that the sink was draining too slow. We use a 22 gallow holding tank, with a 2"  hose connected to the adapter on the holding tank. With the new design, there is a vent as well. When I pull the camper out, I ll shoot some pictures so you can understand how I rigged the adapter.

BearnkatVenting seems to do the trick for a lot of people.  And it doesn t have to involve a really complicated mod to vent.  A simple gardenhose Y-adapter worked fine with my camper. One part of the Y points up and has an 8"  piece of an old garden hose attached so that it points up.  The other part of the Y points down and is connected to a 2 ft. piece of garden hose the other end of which goes into one of those blue Aquatainers from Wally World.  This is sort of the " poor gal s"  version of the fancy systems with pvc vents that you guys have concoted. But it works!

tlhdocThanks, I though I was missing something...

BearnkatThanks. We never have used the inside sink so we were unaware of the problems.
Not only that we assume it would work just fine being a Coleman.
