Why do you hide?

I have noticed that some members "hide" when they are on PUT.  My question is why?  If you don't know what I am talking about look at the bottom of the forums list and it shows who is online and how many members are online.  The number of members online is almost always more than the number of members that are listed, so the rest are hidden.

I'll admint I've never counted before, but when I just counted now, I got 20 names.  The numbers given were "80 (20 members and 69 guests)."  It's not going to list "Guest Guest Guest..." 69 times, so all of the logged in members were listed.  Maybe nobody's hiding right now.

Actually, A-B, if you look under the 'User CP' and then 'Options', there is a check box that allows you to be invisible. I don't think you'll show up at all.
 
I'm sure people have a reason for using the "stealth mode" or they wouldn't have the box checked. Perhaps if the boss visits this site and you don't want to be seen during work hours?:yikes:

This is slightly off-topic, but not too far.

I decided to use a pseudonym for various reasons. My user profile lists my city of residence, but I don't see that it lists my address. So, how is it that the big RV catalog is coming to my home address - with the name of SpeakEasy on it?

This is the only RV forum that I'm registered at, as far as I know.

Ok....I confess.  I think I am hidden most of the time.  Mainly, it's because I (almost) never bother to log out - am I really here 24/7?  Of course not.  BTW, Charlie - I am fully aware you know who is where at any given time.   :p

OK, (out comes the b*$@* you all know and love) I don't think everyone needs to know if I'm on line or not every time I read PUT or any other forum. Guess it all boils down to privacy more than "hiding"....I delete all my tracking cookies too!

I never noticed that before :confused:

I have 4 computers around my place. At least one of them has PUT on the screen at all times. It doesn't mean that I'm there though.  :p

Maybe I should go to "stealth mode".

It's so they can check the board to see what's going but they don't have time to make a response to what was directed to them. everyone will just assume they haven't been online to read it.. I wouldn't know anyone that does that :rolleyes:

Even if you are in stealth mode, if you check a users profile it tells you the last time they were online.  Another secret reviled.
