Does anyone have any experience/obsevations about either the CG at Wilderness SP or the Platte River CG in Sleeping Bear Dunes SP in Michigan? We are considering a  trip up there sometime summer '07. The Platte River CG  looks like the sites are quite private and the Wilderness SP CG looks like the sites are right on the lake. Both look really inviting to me. We are also thinking about Watoga SP in WV but that's for another board.
Thanks in advance.

We stayed at Platte River, It's a very nice CG, sites are fairly good size, some more secluded than others. The bath houses were very well kept. The only thing I diddn't care for was the showers took tokens.  Here is a picture of our site We'd go back there.

Haven't been to Wilderness but we did drive thru Fishermans Island Island (rustic) and really liked it, some sites are  on the beach of LK MI, well, just off the beach, your own lakefront site and secluded. It's on our list of places to go.

We camped at Platte River several years ago.  We would also go back.  We booked a site in the electric loop (most sites were gone in seconds on the first day you could reserve them).  It was a very quiet campground, even during the day.  I didn't mind the tokens for the showers (50 cents each).  Most of the National Parks do not have showers, so it was a nice bonus.:)

Hello
I have stayed at both and they each have there own charm.  Platte river is nice, more busy I'd say but private enough with lots to do.  just outside the park is a canoe livery for float trips on the platte.. the area has alot to offer.  Wilderness is large  and very secluded as the name implies with all that it brings.  I plan on visiting each this year.  Of the two I'd pick Platte and maybe do a day away/daytrip to wilderness to check it out.  Ken

Thanks for all the input. Still not decided if we're going North ( Platte or Wilderness) or SouthEast (Watoga WV) for our "big" trip next season, but Michigan sure is looking inviting. Thanks

Can't speak for Platt, but my family has camped at Wilderness at least a dozen times and we love it, love it, love it. There are actually two campgrounds, one on the beach (you can hear the waves lapping but you are in sand) and one on the bluff overlooking the Straits (shade and grass). There are miles of pristine beach, great hiking trails, peace and quiet (mostly families, no wild parties). It is remote, takes about a half-hour to drive to Mackinaw City, but you really get the sense of being away from it all.

Thanks to all for the feed back but as you can tell we decided not to go north this year, but instead went to Watoga SP in W.V. Watoga Review
We may be able to head to one of these two campgrounds next year. The rest of this season will be local -with in 2 hours of home. We are still looking forward to putting the dash compass on "N" and checking out one or both of these places.
Thanks again for the input.
