Has anyone recently camped at Hillsborough River State Park outside Tampa, FL?

If so, how was your visit? Would you go back?

Thanks!

Hi There, first time post for me.

Camped there our maiden voyage last Nov. after picking up our new santa fe from Peco Campers in Ga.

Absolutely loved it.
Stayed on site 52 ? I think, which was close to rest rooms , but had a large group of teenage tent campers close by. It got a little noisy around dark, but by lights out was quiet.
Will be back April 6,7 as our family (about 75) will be having Easter with a pavillion rented.
They also have a Fort Tour which runs a couple of bucks. A trolley takes you across the road and there is a short walk to the Fort. Really Kool.
Would definately recommend.

I am going to try Hillsborough River State Park in May.

I camp there at least once a year for the last four years. Excellent hiking trail by the river. Beautiful camp sites... Worth a visit. They also refurbised their outdoor pool..although I've not used that amenity yet.

Hey folks,

Just another positive experience with Hillsborough River State Park. Very nice place to camp.

A couple of heads ups--

1. The fort tour is now only on certain days. It used to be open to the public all the time, but someone decided to vandalize the fort, so they only open it during tour time. Not a big deal, unless you don't realize that and try to just walk in.

2. The firewood they sell was really wet, and when I asked the lady at the check-in station if they had any kindling, she said "You won't need it, that wood burns good"...Yeah...right. It burns good if you use a whole pack of firestarters and then blow on the the fire with your vacuum cleaner to get it hot enough to get the wood to dry out.
