I have an old fleetwood trailer that has one of the tops that are made of the abs plastic. The roof has some spider crackes in it and if it rains  the water gets in by the airconditioner. I have sealed all the spider cracks but am not sure how to seal around the ac unit so that water does not get into the camper. can anyone help me with this, thanks. scott knapp

I've never pulled an A/C unit off of the top of a camper before, but it can't be too hard.  If I were you, I'd pull the unit and take a look.  There may be some damage under the unit, or a gasket or seal that needs to be replaced.

HERE is a link to the manufacturer of the coleman mach A/C units.  you can find your model and the corresponding installation manual.  from what i've looked at with my own unit, it appears that once you remove the inner housing there are four screws that sandwich the unit to the roof.  it should be a relatively easy procedure and then you can examine the sealing gasket and replace if necessary.  the replacement part would have to be ordered from a authorized service center.  good luck and keep us posted.

I am guessing that the 4 bolts that hold the inner and outer pieces of the AC unit together just need to be tightened.  You don't want to tighten the bolts too much and compress the gasket too far.  This should be done yearly.  The bolts loosen over time.  Good luck!:)

The gaskets do harden over time and have to be replaced.  The four bolts that hold it to the roof have to be removed and a new gasket installed.  It is helpful if you use butyl rubber tape around the 14" x 14" opening, along with a new gasket.  Duo-Therm Dometic recommends that when installing a new unit that the bolts are tightened to 45 inch pounds of torque.
