We have started the car shopping process.  Every Jeep that I've seen that has a tow package capable of pulling our p/u has leather seats.  My question:  how durable are leather seats with dogs?  We have two dogs, both under 50 pounds, and I'd hate to have them rip up  my new seats.  The guy at the dealership said they'd be OK if their nails are short and not sharp.  Sounds reasonable to me.  Our neighbor has either a Lands End or LL Bean seat cover that he loves.

Thoughts?

I think the seats would get scuffed up if the nails got long. I don't see any rips happening. Seat covers would be a must, Beside seat covers are more comfortable than sticking to the leather with shorts on.

I have leather Seats in my Jeep I dont like them! I have two jeeps one with leather the other without. I gotta say the cloth seats are so much better in the summer. Leather looks great, wears great but it's cold in the winter (untill heated) and your legs stick to it in the summer. We have bought neoprene seat covers for them both I highly recommend these for your jeep. We have a dog 55 lbs and the seat covers really do a good job. The neoprene covers are washable ,waterproof and very soft and comfy.........Hope this gives ya some insight..Tom

Leather seats are nice looking and smell good when new but they are hot and sticky especially on a long trip. I've had one TV with them and will not have another.

Don't know about the dog part but I love my leather seats.

I have a 90 lbs Chesapeake Bay retriever and have leather in the Volvo and in the Durango and he has yet to do any damage to any of the seats in either vehicle. I also have 3 active boys that have not been able to do any damage to the leather interiors. I was skeptical when we got leather for the first time, but soon found that it was easier to care for than cloth. Now I will always go with leather.

Ummmmm......
I have a Jeep Wrangler(4 door). Leather seats are not an option. With the standard seats in the Saraha Unlimited there is some kind seat material called "YES" and its supposed to be easy to clean and more able to resist dirt an dog hair and spilled drinks. It only has a towing capacity of 3500 lbs so that is a bit of a downside.
