12v Television

Hello fellow popupers
I am getting ready for the maiden voyage with my new popup.  I am considering buying a 12v TV.  Any recommendations?

One option is to use a power inverter instead of buying a 12 volt television.  The down side is you will use more power that way.  I don't think there are too many 12 volt TVs on the market, so you might not have much of a choice in what you get.

Maybe a nice small flat panel LCD with an inverter??
 
Whatever you use, unplug it when not in use. Most of them draw power even when shut off.

All else being equal, get the one that has the lowest wattage rating.  It will use less power, and will drain your battery more slowly.

Oh, and please keep the volume down, or better yet, use headphones.  The wolves don't like competing with your television.  And yes, I have listened to the distant howling of wolves while also having to listen to a fellow camper's television.  I am sure those other campers did not hear the wolves.

I found a nice Orion 12 volt 9" color TV/DVD combo at Walmart.  I have seen it on the web under a few diff names as well.  Not all Walmarts in my area had them however.  It was hard finding this one as the 12volts are hard to find locally.

I bought a 12v color/dvd/player, and it works fine... and im not sure about it pulling any more in AMPS from the battery ill check it out today and tell ya...

check out Radio Shack. I bought a LCD TV/DVD combo that had adapters for 12V and reg. plug. I love for the camper, everything fits into a compact cary case :-() .

We bought one of these last year at our local Wallyworld.  It was branded under the Emerson name, if it's the same one.  AC/DC 9" color TV/DVD combo with remote and carrying bag.  Seems like it was 129, or 139 dollars.

And yes, I have listened to the distant howling of wolves while also having to listen to a fellow camper's television. I am sure those other campers did not hear the wolves.

That was me and I was listening to Animal Planet and the wolves were on TV. Nothing like a great sound system to fool your camping neighbors.
Next time I'll play the cricket soundtrack....

I recently bought a Polaroid 9" portable dvd player with a TV docking station, which means you can plug into cable or use with rabbit ears on it, too. Got it on Ebay for about $140. It has a battery that lasts over 3 hrs., and I am gonna get one of those inverter/converter whatever thingy to plug into my van's cig lighter to make a regular plug in so I can recharge it even when dry camping. The docking station is not a permanent part of the dvd player; you can detach it. I just prefer the portable dvd player to a regular 13" or so TV because those take up so much room.

If it's not too late to chime in...  if looking for something portable, check any best buy, circuit city, or any number of online sources.  Anything automotive should work great.

If looking for something more permanent, check out any car audio shop, or boat shop like BoatUS or West Marine.  They, too, will have plenty of options.
