I like the plarforms available for receiver type hitches-can put a lockable storage bin, cooler or gangs of other "stuff" on them. Does anyone know of a mount system for sale, or a good design for one, to attach a platform to a popup bumper? (btw-old coleman, tire mounted under. and no trunk)

When "hanging" ANYTHING off the aft end of a popup, there are some things you should consider:

1) Really don't know of any popup bumper that's strong enough to handle any significant amount of weight. You would have to attach such a carrier to the main camper frame(s). I have a two bike carrier mounted on the rear of my little Starcraft, connected to the frame, and it is an expensive set-up for carrying just two bikes.

2) Whatever weight you hang on the rear MUST BE compensated for on the tounge of the trailer; otherwise it will be sway time on the ole highway, big time.
Some popup campers just simply are not all that well balanced to begin with and do not lend themselves to mounting any weight on the rear ... period.

Yes, all of thise points are quite valid. I'm fighting psycology. I woud much rather mount something on the roof of the pu, (or car for that matter). My wif has a deep-seated fear of items blowing off the roof (long story, no cure, short of drugging her for the trip) I have a big ole heavy yosemite (hard sides), plenty of weight. I need a way to carry bulky items, like the cooler, grill, bikes or waterproof junk box not on the roof

What I have is the camping trailer bike rack made by Topline.

Scroll over to the left side and click on "racks" and there will be their line. Maybe you can get an idea for something.

Take a look at these:

However, I must agree that you may be asking for trouble hanging much weight off the back of your trailer. The frame isn't designed to handle it and it will reduce your tongue weight which may cause swaying.

One of our members made a real neat roof top carrier out of the first one. Not much chance of anything getting out of that. :D
