I need some ideas for side dishes with grilled burgers! We are going to a family reunion and need something new to fix! I love to cook so what's your favorite side dish?

AustinBoston

Mostly the old standbys:

* French Fries
* Baked Beans
* Potato Salad (but I would make it with sour cream instead of mayo/Miracle Whip)
* Macaroni Salad (ditto on sour cream)

vinegar based coleslaw is another

Several different potato casseroles would go well with a good burger.

Here's what I'm taking to our family reunion this coming weekend.
I prepare it all before I leave home and toss it together just before serving

Spinach Salad
1 huge bag prewashed baby spinach (costco size)
1 package bacon, cooked crispy and crumbled
1.5 cups fresh bean sprouts
6 hard boiled eggs, sliced or chopped
Chopped green onion
water chestnuts, sunflower seeds are optional (I leave those out)

Dressing......throw all the following into a blender, blend till smooth.

1c olive or sunflower oil
1 medium sweet onion,chopped
1/2 c packed dark brown sugar
1/2 c vinegar
4 tbsp catsup or ketchup ;)

2 tbsp worcestershire sauce

My girlfriend taught me this one.  Hope my memory is correct.

Chinese RAMEN SALAD

Dressing:

1 cup oil (canola is best)
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup white vinegar
1 pkg Oriental ramen soup seasoning

Salad:

1 lb. package cole salad mix
1 pkg Ramen Noodles
1 cup salted sunflower seeds
2 bunches scallions

Prepare the dressing in advance by combining ingredients for dressing. Refrigerate at least one hour.
Break up noodles, mix all dry ingredients together, sprinkle with dressing and serve.

Here's one I had for the first time this past weekend
Bag of baby spinach washed and trimmed
cup of cooked penne
handful of cherry tomatoes halved
sweet red onion cut into rings and chopped ( I don't like onions)
crumbled feta cheese to taste
and on top add zesty Italian dressing out of the bottle, toss and enjoy :)

Very easy and tasty pasta salad:

pkg of multi-colored spirals, cooked al dente
rinse them with cold water and toss in large bowl with:
pepperoni slices
chunks of cheddar cheese
peppers, onions, tomatoes, whatever you like
coat everything with a bottle of your fav italian dressing
can also sprinkle it with salad supreme seasoning
best if refrigerated for a few hours before serving
stir well and add more dressing as needed before serving

Enjoy!!

DW makes this all the time.
A couple tweaks... use white wine vinegar, not regular white vinegar.  Also, 2 pkgs Ramen noodles and add 1 cup slivered almonds.

Instead of regular mayo based potato salad try German potato salad.  Not being mayo based you don't have to worry about stuff growing in it when sitting out on a warm day.

1 bunch green onions, sliced
3 lb red potatoes
2 lb bacon
2 C water
1 C vinegar
3/4 C sugar
1/4 C bacon drippings

Cook and peel potatoes.  When cold dice.
Fry bacon and crumble
Add water, 1/4 C bacon drippings, vinegar, and salt to a sauce pan.  Bring to a boil and pour over potatoes.  Add bacon and green onions.  Serve warm.

LOVE the Red Potato(e) sour cream potato(e) salad...for a nice variation, add a packet of ranch dressing mix into a large batch.....

Grilled corn is a tasty side.
We've always done pototo salad, and my mother used to place the bowl inside a bowl of ice to help keep it chilled on a hot day.

For something new with burgers over Labor day we marinated home-grown small tomatos, green peppers, vidalia onion chunks, and whole mushrooms and then cooked on the RVque grill on kebab skewers.

"OOppss Potatoes"

When we were camping at Letchworth State Park years ago, I put some small red potatoes on to boil (skin on). I was going to boil them until just soft and serve them rolled in butter.

I left them on low heat and forgot about them...actually I went to tour the neighbor's 5th wheel.

Blaise had no idea what I was going to do with the potatoes, so he let them boil until the skins were cracked and really very soft. I drained them, added butter and milk and mashed them. But they looked too plain so I added bacon ranch dressing and some french fry seasoning.

When the kids asked why the potatoes looked different I told them I did an oops. Now they call them oops potatoes.
