Inadequate tail lights

I generally go by the rule that if it ain't broke don't fix it.  But these tail lights on my PU are lame.  I would like to replace them with some really bright LED lights.  Also I have seen some motorcycles brake lights that flash.  Now that would get their attention!

In most states, flashing tail lights are illegal. In some states, they will allow a flashing center light. Check your local laws.

A simpler approach might be LED sets designed to replace the bulbs.  These bulbs don't work in most cars/trucks because they look like a blown bulb.  But they would work fine in a trailer, and should be much brighter than incadescent bulbs because they draw much less current.

Something like this:

The advantage of these is that you don't need to replace the socket or fixture, just the bulb.

Like Wayne, I'd advise against using flashing bulbs.  I see them more and more in Minnesota, but they are illegal here.

Thanks you guys.  I probably wouldn't do the blinking lights.  But I am likely to do something I saw in Austin's link.  So easy.  I saw the blinking lights for motorcycles.  That's where I got the idea.  Especially important for someone to see you on a motorcycle.

The only way they replacement bulb type are effective is if your socket faces the lens - you need the bulb top to actually face straight out toward the lens - if not you lose mot of the effect.  Been there, done that.

His knowledge of automotive lighting is amazing and he only sells products that actually work.  

My brother tried some of the LED bulb setups in the taillights of his '89 Blazer. They were a joke and he sent them back.  I put a set of Daniel Stern's bulbs in the all the rear lights on our Audi Avant and the difference is amazing.

I just ordered some of these.  Can't wait to get them.  Here in California we have some loony drivers and you need to grab their attention sometimes.  Super bright led's should do the job!  I'll try and post some pictures later.
