Does anyone out there own a Viking RV with a Carefree of Colorado awning and screen room???   Even simplier, who has installed a screen room themselves on their PU?

I got the awning up and I am now attempting to install the screen room and skirt.   The instuctions from Viking suck. (...to be honest) Anyways, here's my question:

When installing the snaps for the skirt which attaches to the PU, should the snaps be installed into the side of the PU itself, or should they be installed into the frame of the trailer?   The instructions are not clear and it simply doesn't seem like I have any space below the PU door to actually attach one of these included screw on snaps?   Anyone use velcro instead of the snaps?

Looking for some awning advice here.

Thanks much,

Hi There

To be honest, I do not have the same type as you , but we have a screenroom. We bought it last year to go with our Popup. We tried to set it up once and got so frustrated that we put it back in the bag and went out to walmart and picked up a screen room.

If we wanted to setup the screen room, we would have to attach the snaps to the trailer, to hook the room in, then at the bottom of the trailer, you have to hook the screen up so the bugs do not came from under the trailer, this means alot of cutting and improvising. I'm sure I'll go back at it this year, but its a very poor system. If I had known this in the beginning, I would not have purchased it.

Sorry to sound so unpositive,,,

We installed the Viking AAR for Carefree of Colorado Awning ourselves.  The snaps for the skirt are to be installed on the frame, not the siding (?) since you would catch the skirt with the door everytime you open and close.  We made sure it was taunt and a little bit extra to slip up under the edge of the siding, especially at the door.

To be honest, the snaps were a pain in the butt to install as they stripped easily or just broke.  (And YES, we did pre-drill) In having used the AAR several times, if I could go back and do it again, I would probably install heavy duty velco.  (Black to blend in with the frame.)

If you do decide to install the snaps, have someone help you hold up the skirt first to see where the snaps line up on the frame first before you drill.  If we hadn't done that, one of the snaps in the middle would've ended up at a joint of the frame.  You wouldn't know that unless you looked underneith first.  To solve this, we just shifted over about 1/2 inch.

The AAR came free with our new Viking as a special promotion they were having.  Once we installed it and got the hang of it, it's not that much trouble to set up.  Takes us 10 minutes at the most.  The extra space and privacy curtains are wonderful.  Was especially nice on our last trip as the May Flies in Ohio were in mating season and you actually saw clouds of them comin in off the lake towards you.

Hope this helps!
Sue
