Has anyone ever tried the ziploc omelette? It's great and saves time at breakfast.

At home before you embark on your trip scramble some eggs. Place the eggs in individual size (strong) ziploc type bags. You can also put your cheese, mushrooms, olives, onions, peppers, tomato. Put whatever you want in your omellete into the bag. We put our bags into a hard shell ziploc container and put them in the camper fridge.

When you are ready to eat breakfast place your ziploc bag into a pot of boiling water and a few minutes later your eggs are ready to eat. We eat them out of the bag. The only cleanup we have is to dump the water out of the pot. (and clean the bacon skillet because we always have bacon at breakfast when we're camping)

This saves a lot of precious hiking and playing time.

Enjoy

Ps. When I wrote this post I was unaware that a similar post was already on the board.  You might check out the post on eggs in a bag.  It is the same thing and there are some helpful tips in that post also.

We usually do them once every other camping trip and sometimes once every trip. They're great because you can make the omelets to each person's tastes. I often include the bacon or sausage (pre-cooked, of course) to the omelet; then there's no skillet to clean, either!

They are also a great way to keep my DW happy and content as she likes peppers, and I don't. This way, she can have them.

We do this all the time. Easy, quick and fun. Clean up is a snap.Moose

Everytime I read about this recipe, someone mentions that it's potentially dangerous.  This time I'll mention it.  Here is one article.   You can find other articles, or go to the Ziplock website for more information about boiling with the bags.

Reading the information on the bags concerned me about cooking in them and then feeding it to my family so I came up with another solution.  I still put all of the ingredients in the bag and label them with each family members names.  I cook my bacon in an iron skillet and leaving some of the bacon grease pour the egg mixture in the skillet.  It works great and since I used the bacon grease the skillet is easier to clean.

Thanks for the safety information

We've used Instant Omlette from Jewel. It's already made up and frozen.  Looks like a mini pizza.  Comes 4 to a box.  They have all kinds of combinations.  Just get the skillet hot, open the bag and lay it in. flip once and you're done.  They can be microwaved, but taste rubbery if you do.  We just cook right on the camp stove.  Just use a little butter or PAM spray so it won't stick.  A couple pieces of toast, some coffee...Be right back....getting hungry.

We Tried These Memorial Day On Our 1st Camping Trip. Read About Them Here And Thought It Would Be Fun. It Was And They Were Great! Easy Clean Up Too. Grumpycamper Says He Likes Them More Than Anything Else We've Tried Yet, So We'll Do These Often.  By The Way, Tried Biscuits On A Stick This Weekend. Fun For The Kids And Good--just A Little Tedious, So We'll Use Less Often.
