We've decided to make this the major trip of the summer - heading down from Shenandoah to Great Smoky Mts. National Park. We'll take our time along the way, and do some exploring. We'll be using Fred Fussell's book, "Blue Ridge Music Trails: Finding a Place in the Circle" to locate some authentic bluegrass and gospel music venues.

We really do like Corps of Engineers campgrounds generally. I'd like to know from folks who know firsthand which ones along the way are particularly nice. If you have made the trip, or if you were going to make the trip, which C of E campgrounds are not to be missed?

Thanks in advance!

Corps Lakes Gateway   and Philpott Lake

There are not many COE campgrounds through VA along the Blue Ridge Parkway.  However, Goose Point is extremely nice having been renovated 4 years ago and reservations are highly recommended - Loop C is lake level.
Goose Point is located on Philpott Lake and is about 30 minutes east of Meadows of Dan and Mabry Mill located on the Parkway.

The remaining COE campgrounds are also on Philpott Lake and are very nice, just not newly renovated.

Perhaps someone else can shed a little light on other locations.
 Have a safe trip.
