Nuts to remove A/C?

So do you think I'm crazy to remove the mini mach that's on my PU? I'm thinking of replacing it with a vent/fan. It looks as old as the pup and we've never even tried it. We've had the PU 3 years and the previous owner said he only used the fan on it. We don't usually use sites with electric. I figure I'll loose alot of weight off the roof too. In the past we've rented pups with vents/fans and thought that was fine.

You're not crazy if that is how you and your family camp.  You should be able to find power vents that are a direct fit for the hole left by the A/C.  I wouldn't necessarily get rid of the A/C in case you change your mind or try to sell the PUP.   You'd probably loose a 100lbs or so by taking it off.

You'd also lose some wind resistance. I agree, take the thing off if you don't use it.

However, (if it were me) I wouldn't store it. I'd sell it. I'd also sell it before I remove it so that I could show the buyer that it works. The down side of storing those things is that, inevitably, something will happen to it. It may get poked, prodded, dropped, the seals could dry out, rats can get in it, etc, etc. They aren't fun to store.

If you're just going to store it, the best place may be right where it is. By all means though, run the AC at least 4 times a year. Just to keep the seals from rotting.

Thanks for the replies. It is a good idea to see if it works. I'm going to borrow a heavy duty extension cord from work this weekend to run it at home. I have a 20 amd circuit that has nothing else  running off it that I could test it on. I'm still inclined to go the power vent route though and sell the a/c. At least I'll be able to tell a buyer whether it works or is good for parts.
