Stayed there over Memorial Day Weekend.  It was great.  Lee and Bonnie are very nice people.  Place is huge and well spaced. 1400 sites. Lots were big and level. Good mix of shady areas and lots of sunny spots too.  Bathrooms and showers were clean on the mens side, but wife and girls said the women's side tended to get dirty by evening.  The pool was on the cold side but very clean.  Thr roads were a little rutted by not too bad.  They have play grounds, hiking trails, fishing lake (pond),  swimming pools, hayrides, movies at the pavilion, a general store and a game room and a whole lot of other things to do. People were really friendly. Not to rowdy or noisy. We really enjoyed it and it's only about an hour from home.  We will definitely be going back.  We'd rate it about 7.5 out of 10.

Thanks for sharing.  I just pulled up their website and I'll check it out.

We're heading to Starved Rock the weekend after the 4th.  I haven't been there in about 20 years.

Good luck. If you don't have reservations at Starved Rock by now, you probally won't get in.  Accdording to the DNR website and site availability, they are full.
That's the same problem we had Memorial Day.  Called Glenwood and they said  " Come on in.  We never fill up or turn campers away.  We may ask you to leave, but we never turn anyone away."  Starved Rock is really hard to get into on the holidays.

yeah, the reason why I haven't been there in so long is because it's always booked!  But I guessed that the weekend after the 4th wouldn't be so crowded and I must have guessed right!   I secured the reservation less than a week ago and it appears that it's booked up already!!

I'm anxious to see if I like it or not - it's become soooo popular in recent years.

I haven't camped at Starved Rock in a long time.  I remember when they moved the campground from where the boat launch is now to the new site.  That was a long time ago.  Early 70"s?  Wouldn't mind going again.  Enjoy.  Let us know what you think of it.
