We have a 2000 Niagara 12' box with the hard roof. We get on top of the roof all the time when we wash the popup, but it is not popped. Now getting ready for the summer, we need to do some maintenance on the AC.

Is it ok to get on top of the roof while it is popped? Does it hurt anything about the legs?

Better to get on the roof when it is in travel position. With the ABS roof, I would avoid getting on it at all, but sometimes you just gotta.

Nope, it's not OK.  In the raised position the roof only has a 150 pound capacity.  As the air conditioner is already close to 100 pounds you would quickly go over limit.  Add to that the lifter arms would bend/twist as you moved around.

Thanks all...but how do you pull maintenace on the AC unit? They have done it at the shop, but I did not watch them. They say they have an AC guy come in on Tuesdays to do the work...I'm just trying to by-pass the maintenance shop fee and go directly to the AC guy. And of course he will need some help with the popup part.

Do you do what you need to do popped down, and then pop it up, plug in the AC and see if what you did worked? Just seems like you would be popping and unpopping all afternoon just to see if what you did worked.

How about standing a couple step ladders up on either side and spanning between them and over the top of the roof with 2x12.  The roof doesn't have to be at full height in order to be able to get inside, flip a switch and see if the A/C makes cold.

Just curious, if the A/C works, why does it need service?  Can't you just blow the leaves and debris out of it (if any has accumulated), fire it up and see if it's blowing down in the 30's?
