Hello-

I am new to the forum but have been reading all of your posts and pretty much have learned everything from this site that  I know (which isn't much..) but I have a question-

I have a friend seeling a 2004 Fleetwood Bayside in Great shape-very clean and everthing works.  Canvas and screen are in good shape-no tears and it is very clean.   What would be a fair price- they are asking $5500 for it.

Also, and I know this will sound REALLLY dumb but- I have a 2004 CRV 4cylindr which I hoped to tow it with.  When I read the manufactures rating it said it was only rated for 1500lbs- the Bayside is 3500lbs... Is this right?  I thought a pop up was suppose to be towed with a "smaller" vehicle?

Totally confused

Seriously, stop thinking about buying that Bayside unless you start thinking about buying a tow vehicle to tow it.   Aside for it being unsafe, that little 4 cylinder wouldn't last 100 miles before it came apart.

ok then, can you suggest something that would be appropriate..been thinking about getting a Honda Ridgline anyways....That would do the trick right?

A Honda Ridgeline has a towing capacity of 5,000 lbs., so it would be enough. It's not an over abundance of capacity, but it certainly is enough.

Great..then I will upgrade even though it will stretch our budget WAY over capacity!  The question now is, is the price of $5500 a fair one for the Bayside???

Thanks again for the help:)

Jamiek

how about a Toyota Highlander 4cly

That price seems fair to me if it really is in good condition. I would go through the setup process first with the seller to make sure the beds slide in smoothly and they have it lubricated so it is not too hard to crank up. There's not a lot of maintenance with a Coleman popup, but that way you could see how everything works. Good luck!

If you are asking about towing with a vehicle that has a 4 cylinder because that's all you have to tow with thats one thing, but I want to throw something out there that may or may not be the case with alot of people these days. With gas prices through the roof, I understand trying to save wherever we can. But, a smaller engine is not the answer. That engine will have to work so much harder to tow that trailer that the mileage will go way down. I bought a commuter car with a 4 cylinder, I have to go up hills back and forth to work. I got about 25 mpg. I blew that engine and bought a car with a 6 cylinder and got 29 mpg, it didn't have to work as hard. The answer to your question however is you can't tow 3,500 lbs with any 4 cyl. I know of.

And by the way, I think the price is a good one too.

This is the theory I use to get the toys I want, but wife B is WAY too SMART for that to work most times  :p

I wouldn't pull a 3,500 lb. camper with the Highlander V6, much less the 4 cyl. version. The V6, which I have with the towing package, has a tow rating of 3,500.

If the Bayside pup weighs 3,500, and that's the empty weight, then ready for camping, it will be several hundred pounds heavier. Even if the 3,500 lbs. is the loaded down ready-to-camp weight, I still wouldn't want that slim a towing margin. I want some ooomph left over to get me over those hills and up acceleration lanes onto interstates.

JMHO!
