Spluttering Hot Water...

What do you do about it? You know what I'm talking about if you have a hot water tank and do not generally keep it full of water. When you first fill it up, some air gets trapped and pressurized in there. Then, when you run the hot water, for quite a while you get air blasts spluttering out.

For a long time I just lived with it, but it is really annoying. Then I devised a procedure to deal with it.

This procedure is for dry camping, which is what we do almost exclusively.

My faucet assembly has a diverter that was meant to operate a hand sprayer. I took off the hand sprayer and installed a hand-held shower head. This has a shut-off valve on it. The hand-held shower head is attached to a flexible hose about two or three feet long. Near the sink is a zippered seam between two of the tenting panels. I zip this zipper down and run the hand-held shower outside through the opening. (By the way, this is how we take showers when we camp in a place that doesn't have showers.) I then turn on the hot water, use the diverter to send the water to the shower head, and run the water until the air is gone. End of spluttering! Oh, and in order to not waste any water (who wants to carry water just to have it end up on the ground), I put a large funnel in my fill-opening for the main storage tank and run the water right back in.

What do the rest of you do about that annoying spluttering?

I fill the hot water tank at home before we leave via the city water connection on the PUP venting the hot water tank via the relief valve as it fills thus removing the air as it fills. I fill the water tank at the campground and then have very little air to bleed off. This works for me and if your system of venting works for you, go for it. Everybody has their own way of doing what works for them. Happy Camping.    :U

I fill my water heater at the campground.  I attach a hose to the "city water" connection, turn the water on and then open the hot water on my outside shower.  When water comes out the shower the water heater is full.  I then fill the fresh water tank. :)

I use the City connection at home before leaving and open the hot on the shower and sink till it runs clear. stays clear most of the time out.

If your water isn't running clear you may need to sanitize the water system on your camper.:)
