Stony Brook State Park near Dansville, NY was our home for 2 nights recently.  The campground features large sites with some unusual groupings.  This would be an excellent park to hold group outings, you should be able to find clusters of sites that are like campgrounds within the campground.  The entire campground is heavily wooded.  All sites are rustic, no hookups.  The State Park features a beautiful gorge, about a mile in length.  There are 3 trails, Gorge, West Rim and East Rim.  The gorge trail is very similar to what you might see in Watkins Glen State Park, except the "trail" is the riverbed in most spots.  You are able to wade through much of the creek as you go.  There are several significant waterfalls that are very scenic.  The "pool" is actually the river damed at the low end of the park.  The "pool" is in several sections, using the natural slate of the river for the sides and bottom.  It is very smooth with no stones or rock in the bottom.  It seems much like a concrete pool.  If hiking and swimming are your thing, this park will suit you very well.
