Converting fresh water tank to grey water

I have a '92 Flagstaff and would like to convert my fresh water tank (located next to and below the sink) to a grey water tank. I'm sure I will never use the tank for fresh water ever and want to avoid using a separate portable tank outside of the camper.

Any hints on making this work?  Anyone ever done the same?  Thanks

It would require a lot of plumbing work. Also, the fresh water tank drain never really "empties" the tank and there is no way to flush it out through that small hole.

If you want to install a permanent holding tank, I would recommend buying a new holding tank. They have a much larger drain hole (to allow for flushing) and are designed a little differently.

I also think that you may regret doing that because, if the tank fills mid-way through your camp-out, you will have to pop-down and tow the trailer to the dump station.

If you use an external grey-water tank, you merely carry it to the bathroom and flush it down the toilet. I carry 1 five gallon container and 1 two gallon container. When the 5G container is about 1/2 full, I switch them the next time that I go to the restroom. I put the 5G back in use when I return.

They make grey water tanks that you can hook to the back of your TV and tow to the dump station. I was thinking of doing that until I saw a guy sitting in line for about 1 hour just to dump his "tow-along" holding tank :eyecrazy: . There was 2 Class-A motorhomes ahead of him. Each one took about 1/2 hour to fastidiously flush out his holding tanks.......I guess that I would do the same.

Wavery,  I have yet to see a campground where dumping grey or black water into a public toilet is permitted. The state parks around here are very strict about this and dumping anything from a container into a toilet can get you a hefty fine and kicked out of the campground......

Let's not have another grey water war... :(

I can just see the post from the next owner ... "Hey, the water from our new-to-us '92 Flagstaff sure tastes funny ... kinda like it has an old soapy residue taste to it ... and some other tastes we just can't quite descbribe ... any sugestions?"

(Don't mean to cause any trouble or anything)

You may be right. If you feel more comfortable taking it to the dump station......that's what you should do. I'm just saying what I do.

If there is a law against putting grey water down the toilet, I'd sure would like to see it and know the reasoning behind it. Sure doesn't make sense at face value :eyecrazy: . I would think that they would welcome it. I would think that it helps to flush the sewer pipes. I've been doing it for years and no one has ever said a word about it and I've never seen any signage to that effect. I realize that doesn't mean it's right though.

Define toilet... If you mean the outside toilet over a big hole in the ground, that was where I was pointed to dump my Thetford cassette by the park manager at Morphy Lake State Park two weekends ago.

If you meant a porcelain flush toilet, you might be right. Never been to a State park that had one around here though.

You DO NOT have to close up the camper to dump gray water.  There are these neat things called totes that you can actually drain your gray water tank into and the only carry the tote to the dump station.  The purpose of the gray water tank is to be able to hold more gray water before you dump, but it doesn't change how you can dump, it just gives you more options.

So why not just drain directly into the tote?  That is what I do.  All this arrangement does is add a step to the process, and another opportunity for an accidental spill.

Depends on my trip.
Actually I did on the last trip.  Worked well.
On my next trip I really don't think I will fill up the holding tank, so I will just dump on my way out.
