I am a newbie to the PU world and the owner of an old Skamper.  The lift spring arms are shot.  I've located a source for new arms.  I do a lot of solitary camping which brings me to my question.

Did the original (vintage) design with healthy spring lift arms allow for one person to lift the roof?  There is no crank system on this old model.  Before I invest the cash for the new arms I need to know if it will allow me to remain independent.  Thanks.

First, Welcome to PUT!

The subject you used - "Basic Training" - doesn't really help people understand what your question is about without opening the message.  Many very helpful people here do not have the time to read every message, so they go by the subject.

So if no one answers your question, I would suggest you ask it again, but use the subject "Scamper lift springs question" or "Old scamper - can one person open?" or something like that.

I can't tell you if one person can lift the top of a Scamper, but if it was me, I would replace the springs anyway.  If you found that you could not lift it yourself, the Scamper would be easier to sell with good lift springs, and then you could buy a trailer that you can open yourself.
