During my pre-trip gadget spending spree, I purchased one of the 10" square "O2 Cool" battery powered portable cooling fans. $14 at Walmart and uses 8 D-cells, but comes with a 120v adapter.  There is a nicer version available (see ebay) that comes with internal rechargables, a 12v adapter, a 120v adaptor, and can run on D's.......but it's $37 and shipping.

Anyway, wanted to report that this is one great little fan and man, does it move the air.  It is also very easy on batteries.  It's rated at 72hrs on a set of batteries and I fully believe that.  We ran ours during the hot times and all night for a couple of days and it's still going strong.  For $14, I'll likely grab another one to point at the other bunk.

Would be fantastic mounted in the roof vent!!!

I purchased a smaller version of this fan that runs on a 120v adaptor, 4 "D" cell batteries or on its own rechargeable batteries. For $13 it's a great little fan to put on the counter while I'm washing dishes, etc. It's quiet, powerful and adjustable. I believe it's a 6" diameter, tabletop model. In any event, it's a nice little fan.

We bought the more expensive version, as we do a lot of dry camping and the 12v power cord was of great interest.  We have several 12v outlets installed in the camper.  We're very satisfied also with this fan.  We've used it on 12v, 110v and internal batteries.  The internal batteries are short-lived, only giving about 5 hours of operation and take a long time to recharge.  Manual says if they die, they are unreplaceable but the unit will still operate on other power sources, so I'm not putting too much faith in those internal batteries.  We've not tried it on D cells yet, just don't want to spend the money on 8 D's to find out how long it'll run.  We don't like the series of lights on the front indicating power source and recharging status.  They were too bright at night for sleeping.  We covered them over with electrician's tape.

I got the battery powered one also and very pleased with it and how long the batteries last so far. The only weak point I think is the battery doors open very easy when stored and the holders can dangle by the wires possibly pulling out later, although being careful they should last a long time.

Agreed.  In fact, when I read some reviews of them on Amazon.com (I think) that was the big complaint from everyone; that the door broke the very first time they put batteries in them.  Then I read from the big seller of them on ebay that the doors have been redesigned for the current models.

Prior to my purchase in Walmart, I actually opened the box, pulled the fan out, opened both battery doors and gave it a good inspection.  They aren't the cheapo doors that other's talked about, but they certainly aren't the best design.  But, at $14 we'll just try to be careful and see how it lasts.  I'll save the box and the receipt just in case.

I should buy the 5" square version and use it inside my fridge coils for increased performance.  They are rated at 100hrs on 2 D-cells.  Just leaving it on during the hot time of the day would probably make it last the entire camp trip.
