Bunk lights and fans...an alternative

Roaming around "Orchard Supply" the other day, I stumbled across their selection of AA battery powered fluorescent lights.  For $9 there's a little 4" version that takes 4 AA batteries and for $12 there's 12" version that takes 8 AA's.

I wanted a little one for our backpacking tent so I grabbed the $9 model.  Man is it bright!  Either it, or especially the $12 version would make outstanding bunk lights, or additional lights for over the sink, or the shower, or whatever.  Light enough to mount with the velcro they come with, but have slotted screw holes on the backside so you can do a removeable "hard mount" by putting 2 screws into what you want to mount to.

I was also looking for a lightweight battery powered fan for the tent and online discovered that "O2 Cool" makes a little fold flat 5" fan with foam blades and a thin housing around the blades.  Finally found them locally for $10 at a sporting goods store called "Big 5 Sporting Goods."  Previous to that, I'd only found them online.  Haven't bought one yet, but love the 10" O2 Cool fan that we bought for inside the PUP, and I think these little fans would be ideal for in the bunks.

Anyway, just thought I'd pass along the find since everytime a set of "real" bunk fan/lights come on ebay they get umpteen bids and go for somewhere in the mid $30's plus shipping.

Debistogs

I bought one of these at Wally world 3 years ago (around $7) & it works great & the batterys last me several nights, with it running all night.
