Hello!

I'm new to this forum and new to pop up camping in general.  My husband and I just returned from a very expensive week long vacation with our 2 kids (aged 3 and 2) and were remembering fondly when we used to go camping and have great fun and cheap vacations!  We decided that it was time to combine our "pre-kid" selves with our family now and decided a pop up was the way to go.

We bought a 2008 Jayco 1206 model (didn't mean to buy a new one, but boy are those salesmen pushy!).  Anyway, we're discovering there's a little more to it than we realized.  Many of my questions have been answered by reading over this forum for the past few days, but I still have a few questions.  First of all, we bought a PUP with the bath/shower option.  Is that the cassette potty or is that one you can hook up to something?  Also, our model came with only a cook stove; we're used to those, as we had a coleman gas stove we used to use while tent camping.  However, if we're camping with electricity, can we just plug in a small microwave or toaster oven?

Those are the 2 big questions that come to mind, but we haven't even actually picked up the PUP yet! (Needed some new part for the van to get it to tow, something about a tranny cooler?)  We're planning our trial run camping trip in a couple of weeks, so any other tips would be appreciated!

I can't help you with the first question...I went to Jayco's web site but they don't explain anything about the potti. You will either have a black water tank under your camper to collect the waste (doubtful), or you will have the cassette type. I would venture to guess the latter.

But yes, if you are plugged into electric at a campsite, you can run a microwave or toaster off the regular outlets inside your camper. They are 110 volt outlets just like in your home.

Edit: The 1206 is a really nice floor plan.

I am also pretty sure it is the cassette potty type. PLEASE don't let that intimidate you. If you use the proper methods and chemicals, it doesn't stink, and it really isn't that messy (of course...I'm a nurse, so messy doesn't bother me). You bought the option...USE it!

As for the microwave or toaster oven: Be careful. Make sure you are plugged into at least a 30amp outlet, and I also would cut the air conditioning while using it. I do in mine.

Someone will chime in here with some numbers on microwaves/toasters/AC's and amps, but I still think the above is a good rule of thumb. It might not be as much a safety issue, as it is a headache issue, trying to reset breakers or replace fuses.

IMHO, that's not really necessary. On late-model pop-ups, the a/c is plugged into its own dedicated 20-amp circuit. The outlets in the camper are on a different dedicated 15-amp circuit. As long as she is plugged into the 30-amp receptacle at the power pole, she will be fine.

Deb, I would limit yourself to only 1 large draw appliance at a time when using the a/c. You can run the a/c and the microwave together, but not also while running the toaster, too!

OC Campers

Congratulations on the new popup.  We have the cassette potty/shower combo and love it.  You will know if you have a cassette if there is a little door on the outside of the camper next to where the bathroom sits.  I have also seen it in a cabinet under the potty.  The cassette is really easy to use and is awesome if you have small kids.  You will most likely also need an extra "blue tote" for the shower (if you use it).  On our Westlake the grey water drain for the sink is different than the grey water drain for the shower.  We have boondocked (remote camping) out in the desert with no water or facilities and the potty worked great.  It does fill up quickly but it sure is nice to have.

well my wife and I just bought a 2006 1206 jayco pup and you can use
a micorwave, coffeepot or skillet only 1 at time from the pup or run another
extention cored from you electricial box at the site and put that outside
while cooking or whatever.. I'm looking forward to labor day weekend for a
3 day outing.....

WELCOME TO PUT!!!!

We look forward to reading of your experiences. I'm sure that you will love PU camping. :D

BTW.....it's just like at home...if you plug too much into one circuit, the circuit breaker will trip (the AC is on a separate circuit). No big deal....just unplug something and reset the circuit breaker. You won't hurt anything. That's why the circuit breakers are there. :sombraro:

Hi. I think having a cassette potty would be handy. especially in the middle of the night when your walking to the bath house.

Enjoy !    :yikes:
