Hi,

I am a newbie to this site and just bought a 1990 Palomino Mustang
pop up. During our first time out, I tried to set up awning but was totally confussed. I have 5 poles, 3 poles with tips and black caps that expand and 2 poles with tips and red caps. No rope or anything else. The awning has grommet holes for the tips but the manual is no help with this.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Three poles probably go from the PU's roof to the edge of the awning. You may have three hanging loops (on the inside of the awning bag) that will secure them more into place. The other two poles are at the edge of the awning, but they are usually part of a metal "frame". Got any pics?

I have no pics now but will take some. As for a metal frame, I have nothing. There is velcro on the under side of the canopy along the edges.
Thanks for replying.

Doesn't your awning have a long metal frame that is attached to the outer edge of the awning and rolls-up into the bag with the awning??

It has no metal frame under the outer edge. I have been surfing the sites and net and I get alot of responses about the metal frame, but
I don't have one. Maybe I should start looking into making something.
Maybe someone out there has the same type of awning.

Thanks for your reply.

It could be that it did but got bent and the previous owner removed the offending part. I know that it happened to ours a few months ago. I chose to replace the entire awning. I found a new one on eBay for $150.:

He only has the 11' ones left. They fit the 12' PUs. They are top notch awnings. See my webshots photos.

I called Palomino and he also mentioned a metal piece in the front of awning. He suggested making a piece out of PVC. I am going to try it and take some pics as I go along.

good idea on calling palomino.  they should help you get going with the awning.

I have a 2004, so probably not the same.  I have two larger diamter poles that fit together and slip into the end of the awning.  2 poles then are used to rest between the camper wall (up high) and connect to the corners of the awning, in holes in the larger cross tube.  Then 2 pair of 2 other pieces go together and run to the ground at each corner.

So I have 7 pieces, when the set is broken-down.

$150 looks like a good deal.  If $cash$ no option, get a carefree supersport awning. :eyecrazy:  http://www.carefreeofcolorado.com/
