All,

We bought the 2007 Jayco 23B this past weekend. Pickup up is this Saturday. Hopefully this will be less work to setup and to take down. Good amount of room which we will need with the four dogs (kids) these days. It will be interresting to see how the Tocoma pulls it. I have the complete tow package on the truck.

Good luck and Happy Camping with the 23B.

We enjoyed ours.

Fist of all, Welcome on taking your first step towards the Darkside.  Second, I hink your Taco will do fine.  I was at a dump station awhile back and a guy pulls up with a 24' travel trailer with a slideout and all!  I asked him how he pulls that with his truck, and he said he always get asked that and that it pulls it great.  Just make sure you have WD and a good brake controller.  Maybe airbags in the future.  Good Luck and Congrats.

We compromised and bought a Jayco 21C Kiwi. Only tried it briefly for a couple of days. Great so far!

All,

I am back after a eight day trip in UPSTATE New York (Cicero). This was the the first outing for the new hybrid.. The Toyota Tacoma truck pulled the hybrid very good . Only got about 16 miles to the gal but it was a good ride. For pulling almost 5000 lbs on a six cyc I am pleased.. Sway was no problem mainly because of the duel WD system and sway control bar... I am also glad I had the full tow package on the truck. When I bought the truck I did not think I would ever use it. I got the truck because I liked it and it would be no problem pulling the popup. I am a happy camper!!

That is particularly good news to me as I also have a 2006 4 dr Tacoma with the towing package, and have wondered if it would comfortably pull a hybrid.  And the 16 mpg actually doesn't sound that bad as I wasn't getting a whole lot more than that pulling my PUP from GA to TX.  I'm sure I will have to drive a bit slower, but having that extra room and especially less work for setup/takedown would be worth it.  Now if I can only convince my wife...

Good Luck!! On the wife Part...

Love the hybrid's convenience but with the cost of gasoline future trips will be shorter. Depressing when I think about our retirement plans to travel more. Worked hard to save for hybrid & TV. Have had to park the TV & purchased a small, older economy vehicle for daily driving (about 200 miles weekly). Anyone else feeling the "crunch" of gas prices?

We weren't really feeling the crunch of gas prices, but our neighbor sold us his Toyota Avalon at an incredible price; we weren't even looking to buy a commuter car for me.

That said, with just the first tank of gas, it saved me $34.00 over the Silverado driving the same miles.

What we ARE feeling the crunch from is our unsold house. However, we do have a contract on it; hopefully, it will go through.

Hey Larry, if it falls through, send them my way.  Love to have a contract on my house.  Market here is real real real slow.

Folks,

After reading some of the messages in this thread, I have to say that there is a lot of you afraid of the gas prices today. You have a right to be. But, if I can make things a little better for you I will. Some of us remember the 1973 time frame when we had an embargo on Iran oil because of the kidnapping of US Citizens in Iran. Well, today is good compared to then because today we can at least buy the gas. Back then we could not buy any gas unless it was odd or even days depending on the numbers on the license plate and waiting in line was a nightmare. Most of the time you were only allowed five gals. That was rough!!!

So, yes cost is very high, but we can buy it..... I am a happy camper!!!

If I remember right, some of the biger oil companies got caught hoarding oil to raise the prices during that embago, they were closing gas stations and hiding oil in the tanks.

I am doing things a little differently since gas is so high.  I left the Cabin A at Tall Pines Harbor, they will store it for $1.00/day pay as I go, and when I want to camp, then they will pull it onto the site for free and level it. When I get there I just drop the stablizers, plug up and re-arrange a few things inside and I am camping.  We can use the Corolla to get there, that car uses about half the gas that the truck uses not towing.

If I want to go somewhere closer, I still have the Bantam. Will use that for the Eastern Rally next month.

Whew, do I ever remember those gas lines and seeing the fights break out because people were growing tired of waiting or someone would try to cut in line.  Sure don't want to see those days again.  However don't enjoy $4.59 per gal price but whata gonna do?  We plan on going out in our TT whenever we can even if we have to eat beans......hahaaaaa
