Went to Big Lake 6-10 Aug. We stayed at the rainbow campgrounds. We had an excellent time there. Big lake has 3 different campgrounds to choose from. Rainbow was for Mid to large Rv's and PuP's. The others were for day camping and smaller PuP's. The weather was low 60's and a nice change from the 100's were use to in Phoenix.

We also saw a nice 5pt Buck inside the campground as well as the squirrles and chipmonks.

Elk are all over the place in the wooded areas so bring your camera.

The lake has a small marina for renting boats and a small store for those items you may have forgotten. All in all it was a beautiful 5 days and I highly recommend Rainbow campground and Big Lake. The fishing was poor the week we were there but the scenery was spectacular.

I second the opinion on Big lake. it is our destination of choice.
It takes us about 5 1/2 hours to get there though. Great people at both the store and the campground. I have been there several times and I have only caught 1 fish from shore. To really catch them you need to either have your own or rent a boat from the store and troll for them. I can usually limit out in about half a day and that is being selective on what is kept. You can usually expect at least 1-2 linkers and the rest are almost fingerlings. Ask the folks at the store and they are happy to give you tips on what bait/lures and where to catch them.
