Okay, here's the deal. All my friends know that we camp a lot so I am often asked for recommendations on campgrounds. Some are seasoned campers and some are first timers. It depends on the personalities of who asked me and what kind of camping experience they are looking for as to where I recommend that they go.

Some want to bring the kids to a campground that has lots of built in goodies and attractions for their kids, you know swimming pools, game rooms, that kind of stuff. Some want to feel as if they are the only ones in the woods and want a more secluded spot where nature is the attraction.

Here's my question to you. What campgrounds would you recommend to your friends if they were asking for your help and why would you recommend these campgrounds. Try to recommend at least three different campgrounds to represent three different types of camping experiences.

I'll start:

Fort Wildernessat Disney World:

For the family that wants lots to do for everyone, I would have to go with Fort Wilderness at Disney World. The campsites are nice, the bath houses are the cleanest you'll ever find, there are pools, canoeing, fishing, water skiing, horseback riding, hayrides, bonfires, a couple of restaurants, two campstores, a marina, and oh yeah I also hear there's a pretty nice theme park near by. You can't help but have fun here.

Indian Creek:

If you're ever in Louisiana there a great campground run by the Alexandria State Forest called Indian creek. This campground is great for those that want a site with full hook ups as well as those that want to dry camp or primitive camp. It sits on a 4000 acre lake with great fishing. The primitive sites are very large and secluded. We often go with 4 or 5 families and lay claim to a spot that accomidates all of us. The primitive campsites are so far apart that while you're in your campsite you never see any of the other campsites.

Lake Ouachita State Park:

This is a great campground outside of Hot Springs Arkansas on a 50,000 acre lake in the Ouachita National Forest. Once again a campground that can accomidate any type of camping you desire. If you bring a boat, or rent one there, you can locate one of dozens of islands in the lake and set up camp on the island and have it all to yourself. Rated the second cleanest lake in the US by the EPA there are miles of trails for hiking wonderful campsites as well as lots of opportunities to enjoy nature.

These are just three of my favorites spots, I know you have some great campgrounds to share with us, I've seen some of the pictures you've posted.

Happy Camping

CajunCamper, what a great idea for a thread.

I'm still at my DD house in Louisiana, while I'm here [another month or two] I'll check into the campground you recommend in the area.

I'll put on my thinking cap and be back with my recommendations.

I think you need to answer their question with a few of your own.

Who's going? (adults, teens, kids, old codgers(like me))

Do you need to be entertained?  (swimming pool, playground, casino, game room)

What ameneties do you need (full hook ups, showers, flush toilets)

Based upon answers to these kind of questions you can recommend the appropriate kind of campground.

You want examples?  I have numerous posts in the reviews section.

Caveat - anyplace that parks vehicles less than 10' apart is NOT a campground in my book especially if they don't provide tables.  I want a campground - not an RV park!
