I was wondering if anyone had any feedback/thoughts on Verona Beach State Campground. My husband and I are thinking of staying there in a couple of weekends and take in the pro golf tournament at Turning Stone Casino and Resort. Turning Stone does have their own RV park, but it is $40 a night. If we were planning on going and staying all day at the park I wouldn't mind paying that much. But seems a little high to just have a place to sleep for the weekend. Plus state campgrounds typically offer much more privacy than RV parks.

Our weekend stay at Verona Beach State Park this past weekend was very enjoyable. We stayed at site five which was lakeside and offered a massive view of Oneida Lake. The campground wasn't very busy but every lakeside site was occupied. We arrived at the site on Fri. around 6pm and enjoyed relaxing by the fire watching the boats come and go at a distance. On Saturday we were away from the site most of the day at the Turning Stone Golf Championships,  but did get in a few hours of lake watching and relaxing. We packed up Sunday morning to get home early and do some chores. So we didn't have the opportunity to take advantage of some of the amenities of the site, but would recommend the campground.

The negatives - Canadian geese and seagulls that squawked most of the first night we were at the site. Strong winds off the lake the second night kept the birds away but led to other problems. We had to take our awning down as we were afraid it was going to get damaged. A few sites down an awning on a pop-up was ripped and destroyed. Some neighboring campers tried to save it from damage because the owners were away when the winds picked up but they had no luck. The people at the booth on check-in could let people know with lakeside sites not to have their camper door facing the lake.  The strong winds off the lake also prevented us from having a fire at night.

The positives - Great view of Oneida Lake, nice beach, clean bathroom and shower, hiking trails, bike trails, nice people, Sylvan Beach nearby with plenty of restaurants and things to do. Also good restaurants in other areas - Johnnie's Pier 31 had great food at reasonable prices.

Overall- nice campground with a nice playground and plenty to do. We were there off season so I have no idea how busy it gets in peak season. But my guess is quite busy because there are only 45 sites and the beach is awesome.
