new to me hybrid and gears

my wife and i just puchased an 03 thor tahoe. uvw is 3800 and loaded is 5600. with all of our junk, passenger weight, and tow equipment i think we should come in around 5k. Using that as a base line, and with the 4.8l motor, will we be ok towing with a 3.42 rearend?

we tow a travelstar 19ck that has a GVWR of 5k with a jeep commander 4.7 5spd auto w/3:73s

my point is that tire size and other variables play into this question.
my feeling yes but don,t use OD.

its a 4 speed auto, and my tires are a little smaller than stock, which i think may give a lower effective gear ratio?.......right????????

I have a similar setup. Trailer that weighs around 5K loaded (?? small amount more), 5.3L V8 and 3.42 rears. I live in the hills of Middle Tennessee, and it doesn't strain, per se, but I do spend a lot of time in 2nd gear, even on the interstate, because of the rolling hills. I have slowed from 70 to 65 on the open interstate, and that has helped some. I have also learned that these engines like to wind a little bit more than the old Chevy engines that redlined at 3500 or so.

Overall, I am happy with the setup. Sometimes, though, I do wish I had 4.10's on the rear. I also have a custom tune, which seems to have helped. See my signature for details.

And yes, smaller tires will give you a lower "effective" gear ratio (meaning 3.42's would act more like 3.73's).

well in cali. i can only tow at about 55 max, so i should be ok there. i have been towing around town to have a few things done to it ,and i must say that im starting to feel more confident about taking a longer trip. i do have a k&n, airaid tb spacer,hd trans cooler, and a hypertech installed.
