We have heard about a camping site in Lone Pine/Boulder Creek RV Resort I looked at it on line and it looked pretty nice.  A friend told us they have a really nice club house that groups get the use of for free.(10 or more trailers) and mornings you are served muffins and coffee.......Look at it and see what you think and if there is any interest I'll start looking into times maybe April or May?

I'm not sure where lone pine is  but I bet it would be a pretty far trip for us being we are in San Deigo.

do you have a web site link?  Never mind I found it.  Man that looks HOt dry and boring.  Might be great for all you TOyho's out there, but otherwise, I think I'll pass.

We might be game. Let's discuss it this weekend around the fire and a cactus cooler.

First off, if you don't like Hot, Dry & Boring, you should have been at Dogwood.
Next, if you click on this link http://www.city-data.com/city/Lone-Pine-California.html, you will see that the average temp in April is around 55 degrees. That seems well below Hot to me. Click on the this link

and I think you will see that there are quite a few things to do. so, that takes care of the hot and boring parts. The dry you got me on.

Ok, so they do say there are sand dunes nearby.....big seller for me.

Ok you got me.  WE'll see, even my wife was interested.  So maybe.  I can be water boy for all the Toyho riders out there....

It far though 3.5 hour deive, probably 4 plus with the trailer, but then so was Flying flags!

OC Campers

We have never camped there but Lone Pine is a really cute small town in the Eastern Sierras (highway 395).  It might still be cold in April.  There are a few things to do.  Manzanar (Japanese internment camp) isn't too far away.  Bishop isn't too far either and fishing is all over the place.  It is kind of far for a regular weekend.  A 3-4 day weekend would be better.

Lone Pine?  Never heard of it.  Must be somewhere in the flat desert.  Oh wait- it's less than 15 air miles from the highest point in the contiguous US.  Less than 75 air miles from the lowest point in the western hemisphere.  7 miles from the Manzanar National Historic Site and museum.  Ghost town/mine site of Cerro Gordo just a short distance (responsible for LA's early economic growth).  Lone Pine and surrounding areas were the location for hundreds of western movies, now documented in the Lone Pine Film History Museum.

But don't go.  It's just forsaken desert with the wind whistling through- hot in summer and cold in winter.

By the way- I spent my teenage years viewing Lone Pine as "the big city" because it had a gen-you-wine traffic light.

Azusateach

How far is this from Mammoth?

Going in April might be nice, especially during our Spring breaks.  I know that there's the Newport trip, but I don't know if Easter coincides with my break.

Mammoth is about 100 miles North of Lone Pine.

We drive through Lone Pine when we go to Bridgeport to visit our kids. Not a place that I have ever thought about stopping. It certainly isn't desert but it is the doorway to the High Sierras. Lone Pine is just a sleepy little town (don't blink, you'll miss it). Beautiful views from there but I'm happy driving through.

this place looks fun..I wouldn't mind giving it a go..

Carol how long do you think it will take me?...It takes me about 1 1/2 hrs to get to Mojave narrows

Jamesdad

Just an FYI, Bishop is close to 4 hours from Riverside, and Lone Pine is before it. We are 4 hours from Bishop here in Bakersfield and that is not towing time. maybe a little less (considering towing) just to give you a times table.Hope it helps, Jamesdad

Well as I said before this was just a thought........It is something and someplace different to try and the people that told me about it go every year with their friends and love it......Now with that being said I live in the desert and like it so I guess I look at things different.....Didn't want to start a fight just was thinking out loud......Yes, you are right it would be a four day trip because it is a long drive......I love the town of Bishop and the fishing sites in the area are super and the views are super......Sometimes it's just good to take time to relax......But not to worry I can take a hint......See ya at Halloween and it's a 3 + hour drive for us...........Ya gotta love it........Hahaaaaaaaa

Cjpoppin, thanks for this tread.

I've only driven through that area while I was in route to other places. However, I have always enjoyed that area for it's beauty.

Thanks to this thread, I plan on driving back and spending several days at the campground you suggested.
