Why the threats?

I have been contributing to the geocaching thread for about a year and check it everytime I log on to the site.  In fact when I joined the forum there was a posting from the administrator that they were going to shut it down.

I don't understand why the administrator feels the need to threaten closing the thread when there is interest.  By the way there are geocaching threads posted after July, into September.  Some of us get real busy with the kids in school in the fall, then the holidays, then ...well it is always something.

I went geocaching with my daughter last weekend, but it wasn't on a camping trip.  I guess I could start posting those here, but the posts that I have made have been related to great camping experiences where we did geocaching too!

Please keep it going.  I mean if there are other threads that haven't had any interest in over a year, why close the geocaching thread?

Went cacheing last weekend too..only 2 more until I get 100 finds!  It makes a great way to enjoy the outdoors when it is too (snowing, salted roads, flooded, etc.) to go camping.  It is also an activity that can easily be combined with hiking, running, bicycling, as well as camping, and I haven't yet found a campsite that didn't have interesting caches nearby.

But, pitching horseshoes, swimming, photography, fishing, kayaking, bicycling, woodburning, knitting and crafts, hunting, birding, offroading, museum-visiting, geneology, etc are all other valid pursuits of campers which don't warrant their own thread but are still worthy topics of discussion within the general topics as they relate to camping.  I appreciate this forum made available to us, and just sent in my two-year renewal to the magazine to show my support.  PUT magazine is nice, but it is the information that I learned in the archives of this forum that most helped me through being a beginning pop-up camper. Geo-camping is still a valid topic regardless of in it's own thread or within the general topics.

I have always chosen a campsite on other factors and then looked up what caches were nearby.  I just started wondering if any of us are choosing our camping locations primarily on the availability of interesting caches.

Most likely it's because the administrator is not actually "into" geocaching. :sombraro:

Even without constant activity, as an archive, this forum serves as a resource to those that do regularly geocache and go camping/RVing.
