We will be going to Nickerson State Part on the Cape this summer for the first time.  Anyone have a favorite site that they have camped on.  We are a family of 4 so we need a good spacious shady flat site.  Any help in the are would be great.  Also any favorite places to get cheap eats would be helpful as well.

Gutpile

Go back about 12 threads to my entry on Brewster, MA Camping, if you have not already done so.  Sweetwater Forest is close to Nickerson.  We took a ride through Nickerson just to check it out - I don't remember any specific sites but they were pretty nice and you should find something.  If I remember correctly (and often I don't), the State Parks in Mass do not take reservations - so you are rolling the dice as to what, if anything, is open when you get there.  It is a pretty big park though and I doubt if they are full very often, if at all.  I can tell you that the area is very nice and you will have a wonderful time.  I don't know how old your kids are but remember Paine's Creek - they will never forget the place.  As far as cheap food goes - forget it.  There is pizza nearby (Brewster Pizza House ??)  which has great pizza.  Cheap for The Cape, but not by my standards.  Also a road-side stand, Cobies, which is close, but not cheap.  Be glad to help you more if I can.

Beer Belly

I've heard good things about Nickersons....never stayed there though. If you can't get in there, we've stayed at Shady Knolls....I second Paines Creek....we also do Crosby Beach for it's calm waters....gotta hit Cobies too...we'll be there in late July. For a nice dinner, we hit "The Book Store" every year.

Braintree

I grew up camping in Area 4. The camp store, shower house and playground areall at the entrance to this area. There is a great bike trail system throughout the park and it attaches to about 20 miles of state trails. I just made reservations for Area 7 to try something different. It's a great place no matter where you stay, the water is clear and beaches are nice.

Here is a picture of the site. Plenty of trees and space between sites. There is also a great frog pond for the kids.
