Do You Decorate Your Campsite?

PattieAM

Saw a similiar question on another forum and was very surprised at some of the responses.  Gotta see the responses here!

I generally do not 'decorate' when I'm camping in a State Park, but if in a private or membership campground for more than a day or two, I do like to add a little personalization....

The American Flag gets displayed.
I may/may not plug in my electric palm tree.
I may/may not put up my awning lights.

Your turn!

I must have missed the memo, I don't quite understand the decorating done by RVers.  I do understand if it's at a Supercross event, a Football parking lot tailgate party, or a trade show.  And, this is coming from a past social chairman at my college fraternity who built a working waterfall with a flowing stream and sand volleyball court INSIDE our chapter house, I understand frivolous decoration.

I had been camping with my dad as a little kid, hiking, mountaineering, and backpacking in the Scouts, and now Camping and RVing with my family, and I have even participated and understand decorating a campsite during halloween.  But why at an RVPark or state/national campground?

When I occasionally rearrange the pine needles to keep the dust down, that's gotta count!! :-()

We are like PattieAM, we have to be there for more than a couple of days as it can get to be too much.  We always put out the:  American Flag, California Flag and sometimes a Pop-up Times flag that I made.

We decorate with a large and small lighted palm tree, a couple of lighted pink flamingo's (their necks move up and down), and a raccoon (ARVEE and his wife) statute holding a welcome sign.  Then if I'm really up to it I add some other butterfly, bee, etc stakes and windsocks.  If it is around a holiday, I also add window clings appropriate for the specific holiday.

We have fun with it and usually get a lot of comments.

If camping for longer than a weekend, I set up the awning w/tacky lights (very simple, blinking clear Christmas tree lights).  I also have 2 windchimes (that I take down at night if they get noisy).  I use these clips that I got at the $store that are actually table weights to hang everything up.  They are silver and are shells, starfish, etc.

We always put our small flag out no matter how short a trip - just clip it to the front bunk w/a clothespin.

We generally don't have hookups to run lights, etc. but when we do, I LOVED my pink flamingo tacky lights (got as a present, LOVED them, broke the 2nd time I used them - have to get more, any recommendations on where to buy would be appreciated).  I usually have a hard enough time remembering to bring things like enough food and underwear so I don't make it to the point where I would pack decorations.  However, we'll be camping on the 4th of July this year and I plan to put out the small flags that I put all over my house lawn (that is, if I remember to bring them...)

In reference to flamingo lights search, just saw them yesterday at our local Target store.

We always put up awning lights for after dark ambiance, if it is a short trip (3 days or less). If a longer trip, we have some decorations and a "camp" sign that we put out also. We have decorated for a holiday when at a campground but that is just to keep in the spirit of the outing. Having to eventually put everything away is always in the back of my mind so I tend to keep it as simple as possible. Of course what I think is simple DH thinks is excessive. But, he does like to keep me happy!!!!!!! :)

We have tacky lights that we may or may not put up.  Depends on the length of the stay and whether we get around to it even then.  We have a couple of small US flags that we put out some of the time.  And, we have a Titans' flag that gets clipped on to a bunk-end most trips.  That's pretty much the extent of any decor, unless you consider the awning mat which matches the colors of the pup.

We always display a US Flag attached to the awning supports, and usually have patriotic red-white-blue tacky lites (small Christmas-tree sized bulbs, not those disco-light types.)  Then a wood-burned name plaque is hung with chain links from one of the small-sized garden flag holders, and a seasonal plant or flower hanging on the opposite of the stand in a 5" hanging flower pot.  The small wire garden sized flag holder stores under the matress.

For Halloween, we add a pumpkin, for Thanksgiving a mini-garden flag.  For Easter, we found Easter-Egg tacky lights at Big Lots for $5.00.

The only thing we do that could be considered decorations would be tacky lights on our awning and sometimes tiki torches if allowed.

Only at a music festival.

If we are not camping more then 3 or 4 days we usually don't even put out the awning!

They only time we "decorate" is Halloween.

We have gotten to the point that easy up easy down is the objective.

A couple of strands of tacky lights on the awning. I had this great idea to add more "Christmas" lights and decorate the flower pots we use for awning poles, but soon discovered that the extra work wasn't worth it.

If it's longer than 2 nights, I sometimes place my awining lights up if it's so dark that we need them; they look like mini lanterns.  That is about it, I like the 'decoration' of the woods.

I'd have to say I am in agreement with the easy up, easy down.  the less fuss the better :-)

We only use tacky lights when we camp at the nudest CGs..... :J
