We bought our Fleetwood Laramie a few months ago and absolutely love it. We'd been tent campers before that and had to make the move to a popup after getting in and out of the tent started to become a hassle. The only problem we have is how uncomfortable the beds are. This last trip we tried putting the queen size "mattress" under the king. That didn't help. Do the mattress toppers work? They're pretty expensive and I would hate to buy one that didn't make a difference. Is one brand better than another? What thickness is the best?

Thanks!

Welcome.......Congrats on your purchase......and yes, the memory foam mattress toppers are fannnnnntastic.

There are different qualities of memory foam, so spend up a bit and get the nice ones.  We've got the ones sold at Costco on our King.  I think it's a 3" and we put it right on top of the camper's original mattress.  Love it.  We bought a 1" version for our 8 year old daughter's bunk, from Target.

What on earth did you sleep on in the tent that makes you think your pup matress is uncomfortable?

We use a king size air mattress too........we love it. People either love air mattresses or they hate them.

I got a memory foam topper for my bunk and it's pretty comfy.  As I have dogs, my alternative was the air mattress 'under' the existing mattress (really didn't want to take the chance of dogs puncturing the air mattress, as we have used it for an extra bed in the add-a-room).

we use an air mattress now, but you know how that goes, you have to pump them up pretty much every night as they lose air.

Many postings on here have convinced me to get a memory foam topper.
They are on sale at target this week(Dallas area at least)

Overstock.com seems to have a good selection for a resonalble price.  It's worth the $ to get the goodnights sleep so you can enjoy your trip!

We've had the same air mattress for 3 years. We blow it up when we arrive and let the air out when we leave and just leave it on the bunk when we pop-down. We've never had to add air while camping. I think that you may need a new air mattress.

Very lucky, no one I know has had one that long, they always leak.
Is yours an Aero bed or something other than the walmart and target types?

It's a Coleman, from...............you guessed it............Walmart. :sombraro:

I think that most people have problems with them because they roll them up, transport them, throw them around etc. We never move ours unless we are cleaning. Then we don't roll it up or fold it up and try to stuff it in a package of some sort. I think that puts a lot of stress on the seems and that may be their week point.

Dog

we also bought a eggcrate foam pad from wally world and put it under our mattress and that worked great for us,,,goood luck

Every air mattress we've ever had, except Coleman and Aero Bed, leak. The last one we bought during our tent camping days was a Coleman queen-size with dual air chambers. It doesn't leak, at least not over 2 or 3 nights. Maybe Coleman just makes a better quality one.

I use air mattress and rest of gang uses 3" memory foam-mines a coleman also 2 years and still holding
