Loking for some site or area reccomendations for Hammonasset Beach.  Will be staying there on two legs of our trip thru New England.  Unfortunatly you have to resere for two nights and we only need one.  Oh well guess it beats the price of an hotel.  I understand that the areas that have some shade are near the swamp.  How are the bugs.  Which areas are near the beach.  Any help on choosing a site would be greatly appreciated.

We were there a few years ago and stayed in the grassy, open area.  Fortunately it was not very hot!  I remember the more shady areas are closer to the beach, but, yes it is wet in there, and I imagine it could get very buggy.  Nice beach - we had a good time there.

Make sure you stop in Madison Choclates just up the street about a mile into town! Incredible choclates and gelato.
