Spring loaded set-up question

Hi, I just brought home my 1970 Nomad and the seller told me to have someone stand on each bed-end and lift and then pull out the sliding bed ends.  This seemed to be a bit akward and wondered if the proper way to open and extend would be to stand in the center of the sides and then lift.

For those who own or know about spring set-ups, is there a better way to set up?  I don't have an owner's manual so I'm not sure how it is really supposed to go but we sure wrestled with it yesterday and I don't think it's supposed to be that hard.

Thanks!

Hey Girl, heygirl,
I have an old 198? Sunlite with the spring lift system and I can usually push it up by myself ,standing on the bumper or front of the frame.Although, i need to replace the springs inside the arms when the weather breaks this month.
Then I can pull the beds out, again by myself. and here again ,It's usually nice to have a helper. You have to bring up one end of the roof at a time, and then it stays in position.
Nice to meet you.
