I got this idea from Natasha's Camping Site.  I'm willing to try this but thought I would see if anyone here has tried such a thing before I shell out a few hundred dollars for a high torque cordless drill.  It would also be handy I suppose for raising/lowering the stabilizers and the tongue jack.  Anyone with experience?

Yup, works great - you gotta believe what you read on that site :D

The only downside is that the new socket genies are constructed in such a way that they will not work on the stabilizers.  I've heard that because of the speed you can get the thing up to ion the stabilizer folks were hurting themselves and breaking parts (both the Genie and stabilizer)

Again, gotta love that Natasha :-()

Me too!  I picked up a whole lot of useful ideas from that site!

I have done this, raise camper with dewalt 18 volt and lower and raise four corners. Really speeds things up on corners, I'm slower with roof. I stop short of going all the way up, so as to not over extend or crank. I bought an extra crank handle and cut off the handle. If you do this man, get ready to hold on tight and be able to let go fast. It takes alot of torque to raise these babies!!

I use the socket genie with a 110v drill that I got from harbor frt for $40.

I've probably run the top up & down a hundred times with it.

Done Working

I use a 18v rigid that I bought at Home Depot for $99.00.
Made my own adapter from an old spark plug socket.
I use it to crank up my top use it for my stabilizers and I use a different socket  on my BAL leveler. Really works great.

In case you did not notice, Tim is the owner of that site (thanks, Tim!!)

I bought the genie last year and use it on my roof and stabilizers.  Also use the drill on the Bal leveler (I would not own the Bal without the drill) and I took the crank off the tongue jack and installed a socket so I could use the drill on it, too.

See pics here

Roof lift systems are different - my 550 in-lb torque drill gets my 12' roof up most of the way.  I finish the job with a few cranks.
Good luck!
