We just purchased a used/abused 94 Jayco Eagle 12 footer and the curved pole (arch) over the front bunk (larger bunk) is broken and we are need of a replacement. I have looked and looked to only come up empty handed for a replacement (internet). What does someone typically do for this - I was thinking about just getting some conduit and trying to bend a new one but me and conduit bending doesn't quite go together real well. (I put the bend in the middle and cut off both ends)....

You should be able to get a replacement pole at your Jayco dealership.

Or the dealer could arrange to have one shipped to you. Use online locator and make a phone call to their parts dept.

There's a used camper wrecking yard that should come up on a google search.

Or, consider having your "Shepard's Pole" repaired.  A MIG welder would do a great job on thin metal like this.  An option:

If the pole has a good kink in it, cut it in half through the kink with a hack saw.  Then use something round to massage (bend) the kinked sides back to a round shape again.  Once you have both cut ends round, take it to an exhaust shop, and ask them to weld it back together for you. They may do it for free, or hand 'em a $20 and make some friends for next time!  Then prime and paint the weld area.  If the weld is jagged and might rip the canvas, or rub and damage the canvas, take a flat file or die-grinder, or bench grinder and grind the weld down so it's flatter and more feathered into the pole.

Find an electrician who knows how to bend electrical conduit [EMT] with a tubing bender and he can make a new one very easily using your good shepards pole for a pattern.....

I made mine out of conduit. It was really easy and the end product is much stronger. I just cut the ends off of the old Shepard's hook and pop-riveted them inside the new one that I bent (using the opposite side as a pattern), painted it white and it looks great. Here are some pics:

Nice idea, and excellent job fabbing that one up Mr. Wayne!

If the break is in a straight section you could cut out the damage then get a piece of thin tubing to either go inside or outside the original tube and splice it together. Then pop rivet the pieces together or weld if you wish. If you use a sleeve that fits on the outside make sure the new piece won't rub a hole in your canvas.
