Hello everyone,

We just purchased our first PUP and are looking forward to a fun filled spring and summer.  It's an older one but we had to start somewhere.

1983 Starcraft - Starmaster 21' (no heat, no A/C...ouch)

Any suggestions on where to camp would be appreciated.

Hello back. This forum doesn't get too many looks, but I check it weekly. I live in Richmond and we have a Starcraft 2107. Penny and I like to camp in state parks or boondock. (Our children are grown, so we don't need all the "entertain the kids" amenities that the RV resorts have.)

Go here for the Va. parks. N.C. and W/Va. both have excellent sites.

For a more active crew go here. They are a mix of campers, pop ups, TTs, 5th wheels.

Any suggestions on where to camp would be appreciated.

No heat? No problem...a small ceramic heater will keep you plenty warm...get one with a thermostat (I think ours cost $20). No A/C? No problem....an oscilating fan will keep the air moving. However, I would HIGHLY suggest that you camp in the mountains (VA or WVA) in the dead heat of summer where it is generally less humid. The other option is to install a window unit in the PUP. There are several ways to do this, just check out the MOD forum here. We ended up cutting a hole in the canvas, but only because the AC unit was too tall by an inch for us to install in the side of the "shell".

Depending on your desired level of comfort, there are many state parks that have electric, but no water hook-ups. We can deal without the water, but electricity is almost a must.
