Back From A Great Trip, however ...

Left a week ago yesterday for a our annual springtime trout fishing get-together in the mountains of western North Carolina and got back late last night.

Could not have asked for better weather. Warm days and cool nights ... not cold, cool. The kind that calls for a light jacket after the sun sets and sleeping under covers! And we caught some trout, too! We had three great evening shared meals where trout was the main dish.

Packed up and headed on back Saturday with a planned overnight stop off at a friend's place, maybe close to half way. On route, Saturday evening around 6:15pm, just above the Laurens/Clinton exit, we ran into a hail storm the likes I'm having trouble ever remembering! Tried to stop on the side of the road, under an interstate overpass, but the hail (along with tree leaves), were blowing sideways! I though the windshield on the truck would break! When the worst of "things" sort of blew past (I thought), moved on and caught a little more a couple of miles further. Anyway, I knew my red truck's finish would be ruined. To my surprise, the next morning at my friend's place, after washing the truck, nothing more that a few chips much like you'd expect from road gravel, but no dings. But the little Starcraft's aluminum roof did not fare so well. Has hundreds of hail dings! Oh, well ... some battle scars? I have insurance and as soon as I find out what the policy covers I'll see waht happens. Don't think any of the hail dings punched through the aluminum skin.

I'll keep the board posted as to what the insurance turns up.

With the exception of the hail storm, that sounds like a great trip. Thanks for posting...

My insurance company as well as the dealership said to document the time/place of the occurance, as well as take pictures of the damage - I had no problems filing a claim and having everything taken care of.

Starnge as it may seem the morning after the hail storm I looked the truck over pretty close and could not see much except maybe a half dozen chips. But when I got home yesterday, looking again I see all kinds of places where the finish is bruised, or should I say cracked. It took a couple of days for all to show through. Three's a retire automobile claims adjuster that lives not too far from me and I drove by his place for him to take a look. He showed me all kinds of places!

But I did call the insurance company yesterday morning and am awaiting a call from the adjuster to look things over.

Man, what a bummer ending to an otherwise great trip.  I hope things go well with the insurance company.

Our pup has those dents on the top. The original owner lived in Colorado and ran into a doozy. Stuff happens, huh?

Our pup's roof is dinged up, too. I guess a previous owner had hail either at home or while towing.
