Hi Everyone,

First off, I'd like to inroduce myself here - so HELLO all! I'm a newbie here and a newbie to pop-ups.

I have a 1995 Jayco Eagle 12 (new to me) pop up and the door handle lock mechanism won't engage and hold "shut". I was wondering where I could find a replacement?? Any ideas?

I also don't have the key to this one, so I have no way of locking the camper when we're away......

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! :D

I don't know about the Jayco, but I've had three PUs and they all just used a standard screen door lock.  You should be able to find a replacement at any hardware store or Lowes, Home Depot, etc...
I've replaced several of them over the years.

Don't put too much stock in thinking a lock makes a PU safe from thieves. It's a canvas tent after all.

I have a 1995 Jayco as well.  My door handle did the same thing when we were on vacation in South Dakota.  Duct tape works wonders on the road, but I did need a more permanent solution.

I went to my local RV supply place and was told they don't make that assembly any more ... and with a new one I'd have to drill new holes to mount it as they wouldn't line up with the old ones.  They offered to drill out the rivets so we could see what the issue was.  There are 2 itty-bitty springs inside the mechanism and both had sprung.  I went next door to the hardware place and found 2 similar itty-bitty springs and replaced those.  Then I put the latch back together with small nuts and bolts and remounted it to the camper door.

Problem solved.  Total cost ~ about $2.80.

Hope this helps and Welcome to PUT!

Welcome to PUT. A Locksmith is an option too but would be a little costly. I would suggest removing the door handle and replace with and alternate knob. You can also contact the Jayco dealership only 10 miles from you.

Thanks all - I will try grinding the rivets down and get in there and see what I find. Thanks for the info there.

Yep - Burtons is pretty close - just down the interstate - actually my rig was originally sold by Burtons. My thoughts were that maybe someone had this problem previously and there was a quick and easy replacement.

Yep - I agree - pop-ups are like my Jeep. If anybody wants anything out of it bad enough, a good sharp knife opens her right up. I'll be keeping anything that I don't want to get gone in the tow vehicle.

Thanks again for everyones help!
