I know I have seen posts which say that some of you get it done for $25 a wheel. I have called three places so far and the prices are $75, $90 (plus parts) and $165. The $165 price includes checking the brakes and putting new seals on. I sure wish I could get it done where you guys get yours done!

Personally, I think $100 (+ parts) sounds reasonable. I wouldn't do it for less.

Bought my Starcraft (new) the first of '00 and the "check off" list from the dealer said it had been done prior to delivery - (no need to doubt them and I believe it was done) - so I began my annual bearing maintenance the spring of '01 and the cost was $29.95, which included seals. The next year it was $34.95, then to $40.00 the following year and $49.95 by 2005. The last time I checked (last year) it had risen to $99.95 and I then made the decision to once again begin re-packing the bearings myself, which I did this season.

Not too complicated of a job and once you know how it's done, with the proper tools, your talking a couple of hours. At 30 to 40 bucks it was worth someone else getting their hands greasy, but for $50.00 and hour ... I'll do it myself!

I just said that I thought $100 was reasonable......that doesn't mean that I would pay it :p . I do mine myself no matter what. I just don't trust someone else to do it. :sombraro: I go over every surface with a magnifying glass.

In fact, I'm getting ready to do mine before the next camp-out. I always go out and buy all new bearings, seals and cotter pins before I start the job. If I need them, I have them, if not, I take them back (except the seals & cotter pins).

Hey Fly, Nowadays $50.00 an hour is a real bargain.... One RV dealer near here charges $109.00 per hour...wow ..and I think this includes the coffee breaks and potty time too....

The quote I got for $90 plus parts was priced at an hourly rate so $50 would be a real bargain.

I just stopped in an talked to my neighbor that is a service writer for an auto repair place and they are going to do them for me for the hourly rate of $80 which he will discount for me. Maybe next time I will do it myself but right now I just have too many logs in the fire with not enough time to get it done. At least I'll have the peace of mind that it was done and done right.

Oh, I agree ...

I use to do my wheel bearings years past but for thirty or forty bucks I became overwhelmed with sloth!

For sure, when doing the job myself, even though I have no complaint over the wheel bearing service that was performed, I feel confident (like I use to) that the job was done right!

Bill ... my reference to the fifty an hour was for my own labor!  I know, everybody has gone bonkers over what their actual time is worth! But just like the 1930's, folks are going to return to doing most of their service work themselves.

Shoot, the cheapest quote I've had here in CO is $121 plus the costs of whatever parts they need.  I've got one more place to check, but everyone here is in the same ball park.  Less than $100 would be great to find.

Funny - I just priced out our local places to get it done and it ranges from $80 to $135. I do my own and would never pay that much. However, the place I just ordered my new tires from is going to pack the bearings when they do the tires, get this, for $10 a side, including seals. Now THAT I
