I posted awhile ago for info on the hot water on demand.  We decided to purchase one.  Hubby tried it out this weekend and not sure we like it.  We don't think there is a switch to turn off the water.  All we got was a constant flow of water.  This does not seem very ecomonical or convienent for camping.  Are we missing something or is this the way the unit works ??  Would like a switch or valve to shut off water while soaping up in the shower or doing dishes.  Any thoughts  would be appreciated.

Keri, first of all I don't own this product, but have seriously considered buying one. That being said, I do know that in order to use this unit you must swing the faucett part out and away from the handle. Could it be that in order to stop the water you must swing the faucett back toward the handle?

You need to turn the knob off for the water to stop.  As long as you have it turned on the water will run.:)

If we turn off the knob does the water no longer heat ??  The instruction manual is not very clear on how this unit works....

Examples of how we want to use this unit..............heat up some water for a cup of tea.  If we want to take a quick shower............do we need the unit inside the shower tent so we can turn the knob back on ?

WE camp at alot of places with no electric hook ups.  I was hoping this would be the way to go since we were used to a large RV with all the bells and whistles.    Please keep adding your thoughts.  I love this site and enjoy reading all !!!

This is not helpful to the OP, but this is a good point for those shopping. Get a pup with a hot water heater. I was told before we bought ours we really needed to get a pup with hot water. I kinda poo pooed it, but we ended up with a PU with hot water. I can't believe how helpfull it is. We took off the outside shower head and just use the hose for filling tubs for dishes, solar shower, water for cleaning fish, washing hands, wash cloth baths, on and on. The point is, hot water is very handy to have..........Shredder

There are different settings on the knob.  Page 7 of the Manual describes in detail how to operate your HWOD control knob.  You can let it run on it's own from cold to warm, (for a shower).  Yes, it will continue to run as long as you have water, or the rechargeable battery lasts, (about 40 gallons).

in order to get HOT water for tea, coffee, or cooking you MUST hold the spring loaded knob in the HOT position.  This is a safety feature so that you don't scald yourself while doing the dishes or taking a shower.

No.  But you probably want it close enough to be able to turn it on and off, (a table close to the door of your shower tent).  As mentioned above, it will stay on as long as you need/want it to.  The unit itself is not waterproof, you don't want it inside the shower with you!

Yes!  This is perfect for bookdocking, or drycamping.  The HWOD has a rechargeable battery which will pump up to about forty gallons of water between charges.  You can recharge the unit inside your TV from a 12v cigarette lighter socket.  Or, you can purchase a 12v extension cord, (from Radio Shack for example), and operate it during showers from the idling TV, if you don't have the time to fully charge it.

I have had a Coleman HWOD now for over a year.  I use it at my son's Cub Scout family tent camping trips, (dry camping).  We also use it to wash our dog when it's cold out in the back yard using the water-hose adapter.
