First Campout in our new Cirrus Hybrid

Just returned from our initial camp out in our new Cirrus hybrid, Buck Creek SP Pictures and I have a few observations about the camper. I'll review the SP on another tread. First of all Buck Creek SP is only about 10 miles from home, as the crow flies, but we took a less than direct route so we could tow it on highway, main through fair, and (slightly) hilly-winding roads. To begin with, it was immediately apparent that this is not the little ol' pup we had been pulling around for the last 3 years. It takes significantly more effort to tow it. It is both heavier and higher profile that makes it a bigger drag on the TV.

I also discovered that 38gals of water can be felt. We towed over with a full tank of fresh water and both the gray and black tanks about half full. I'd estimate a total of about 55 gallons. That's probably about  400+  lbs. and I could certainly tell it was back there, verses the pull back home with all empty tanks. I believe from now on I will tow empty.

Another thing is the W/D anti-sway hitch. Every time I want to hitch or unhitch it I have to crank the tongue jack completely down, then fully up, then fully back down again; I'm getting an electric tongue jack! That being said, the W/D -A/S hitch does a real fine job. Without the W/D bars the TV bumper drops by about 5-6 in. With it, it is almost level. Also, on the (short) trip back home I had to deal with some significant wind gusts. No problem, even with the much higher profile than the pup, the hitch did a great job. The bottom line is that I feel confident towing with it.

Overall, we just love the hybrid. We had a thunder storm on Sat night that gave us a pretty good drenching with high winds. We came through it without any issues; stayed dry, stayed warm, all wheels stayed on the ground   I'd say two thumbs up. The camper has a lot of room and so much storage that we haven't filled it yet. We still have the "canvas" bunk ends for sleeping but yet we can "turtle" if things get really bad. We have our own bath with a shower! Yeah, we're happy.

Congratulations on your new camper.  It sounds like you have everything worked out. I don't think I have seen a Cirrus before.

Congrats!  We also went out on our first trip in our Shamrock for 3 days.  Well we found out it doesn't leak.  3 days of straight down pouring rain.  Looking forward to the next one, not the rain, we did how ever make a trip to wally world to buy items from our 3 day list making.

I don't think I have seen a Cirrus before.

The Cirrus is made by Pilgrim. I think they've only been around since 2005.

One of my major considerations in buying this particular brand is the dealer "Best Buy RVs" They are super folks. Have treated us real well. I have nothing but good things to says about them, so far, and they're just a few miles down the road for us.

Sorry to hear about your weather troubles, but the good side is that when your are taking it out for a FCF (functional check flight -old Air Force term)  :U it's good to have the weather help you sort things out. Glad there were no leaks.

Now that we've got a couple of days under our belt, in a few days we'll be heading out for a 10 day stay near Mammoth Cave. The whole family is really looking forward to that.
